I'm curious about the yellow/brown "grease" that had been used by the Buck factory to lube the pivot area on my SBT 882 when it was new...

It's long since been removed from the cleanings and re-lubings I've done, but I still find myself wondering about it...
  • What is it?
  • Is its purpose strictly for shipping/storing protection?
  • Is it better/worse than Militec-1, Tuf-Glide, or Ballistol -- the stuff I'm using now -- as a regular lube?
  • Is it available from vendors/BKI?

I've searched but can only find one passing "mention" on this grease by KSmedic several months ago. TIA! :)

My guess is Militec-1 grease. That's what came in my 172. Does it smell like Militec?

Well, it didn't smell like the Militec-1 oil, but I've never used the Militec grease -- so that is a very definite possibility! This stuff had the same consistency as Lucky Tiger Butch Hair Wax from the '50s :D or grease you'd use to pack an axle!

Just for kicks, I'm going to order a tube of grease from Militec's website and see... I can always find a use for it anyway. :p

Thanks for the info.
