Plugging a detent hole

Looking for some advice on plugging a detent hole in the blade. It's in hardened steel so I will be using carbide. Specifically, what is the proper diameter relationship between the hole and the plug? I have no problem press fitting stop pins in titanium but I think this will be much different due to the hardness.

Also, should the plug be just big enough to do the job or is a larger diameter better? All the way through?

Thanks!

Hi Varga. In order to not have the plug be destroyed when you drill the second hole I most often use a 3/32 size with a rod of the same size that I simply set in by hammering on a few times.

Thanks Frank! That is about the size I was thinking. Luckily I don't have to do it right now and usually an oversized stop pin does the trick. I was looking for the answer to put in my mental toolbox in case I need it.

Do you only set the plug part way through the blade?
