I just ordered a neat little propane forge that uses a 20 lb. cylinder. I don't want to haul the cylinder in/out of my shop every time I want to fire the forge. I do have a sheltered spot for the tank on my shop porch. Can I plumb the tank into my shop to power the forge? I don't mind going out to turn it on/off, and I don't want the tank inside my shop.

Absolutely you can. What forge did you buy?

I bought the Atlas mini forge. I'll call some plumber friends for help on running the lines.

You can permanently plumb, or you can run a hose. I've got a regulator on my tank outside and run it through 3/8" rubber hose, like you find on a compressor or oxy rig, about 30' run to the forge inside my shop.

I've no doubt this violates various codes in various places, so do what you're comfortable with in that regard, or consult an expert. Just sayin' if you live in the middle of nowhere, and don't have insurance concerns, then no need to get expensive with it. If you happen to have a big tank supplying the house though, getting a separate regulator on it and hard lined to the shop is nice, saves money and aggravation.
