Plunge line problem

My goal was to have a plunge line line that sweeps into a flat area, but that didn't work out too well. I tried to salvage the blade and make a full flat grind, but I think I screwed that up too. Any advice how to fix this after heat treat?

My advice is only if you're using a grinder. Run the belt a 1/4" over the edge of the platen. This will soften the plunge and give it a radius at the top. I would also leave a little meat at the top so you don't get into the spine when finishing that full flat.

Flat sanding both sides will get your plunge to reappear. But post heat treat is going to be tough.

This is the first knife I've ever done. Seems to be a rookie mistake. :( I'm going to go ahead and finish the knife to gain experience, I guess. The handle will be a piece of osage orange with red liner material.

When doing a Full Flat grind I always leave about 1/4" or so from the top flat until after heat treat.

I once thought that I would never be able to get my grinds to be even, and have that "sweeping" look to it with a small flat on top. But, it will come. And its a great feeling once you get it. I'm still nervous going to the grinder but, I make it work everytime now :). Keep at it. For your first grind, its not bad. Clean lines, you didnt run off and round out the plunge. You'll get it before you know it.
