I only use 1/8" chainsaw file on all plunge lines, although I typically just use the edge of the belt. But when I have the feeling or need some cleanup its a chainsaw file. It does have one side flat so I can work the plundge over without going deeper if needed.
Use a round file the thickness of the blade. This cuts roughly halfway the diameter of the file at the edge giving a flow to the plunge. Just a rule of thumb I use. If using a file guide this will not allow an under cut to occur.
