I have been looking at the new Masters of Defense Short Tactical Hunter. And I have been wondering what exactly a plunge lock is, how it operates, and how it compares to an axis lock, liner lock, lockback and frame lock. Does anyone have any thoughts?

plunge lock is the same thing as a button lock, it is the type of lock most comonly found on single action automatic knives. In this type of lock there is a spring loaded button that enganges and dissengages the blade at a 90 deg angel. Like the axis lock in order for a plunge lock to fail the lock, blade, or handle must be sheered. The biggest problem with this type of lock is that it is difficult to build one with out blade play. Some also believe that it is possible to accidentally open the lock with your fingers since the lock is on the outside of the knife.

My thoughts on the new MOD series is that they should have been made from aluminum not zytel at this price range.
