I like the different sprints, and the fact that Spyderco now offers these two models in S110V as regualr production (and previously Maxamet), but I would much rather see standard models in S30V (or even better S35VN), M390 (or an analog) and Cruwear. That way you have you have options of a standard steel, a premium stainless, and a premium non-stainless, with sprints runs in Maxamet and whatever else Spyderco cooks up. I'm sure there are some logistical reasons this has not happened, but it would be awesome if it did. I could pretty be satisfied with those as my only folders. Anyone else that would love to see the PM2/3 in M390 or 20CV or something as standard production?

I was a lot into M390, but the S110V production make a good alternative for me and since I have it I don't feel the need for M390/20C...
A standard M4, Maxamet or non-stainless steel will be more interesting for me.

Or K390...

...I too like non-stainless.

I would love to see more normal production models. Also in colors other than black. Maybe offer S110V in another scale choice? Pretty please!

I feel like the S110V versions make ideal high performance users, when looking for wear resistant steels that will keep a working edge forever. It’s definitely what I tend to reach for when really doing more serious outdoor use and the like. Not sure I’d reach for m390 the same way. Probably just me.

We need a next level s30v/s35vn type steel, which we haven't seen yet. 20cv is looking like itll see a decent amount of production in newer knives, but it doesnt have the toughness people crave.

Honest question, not trying to be smart, but why do you think we "need" a next level S30V/S35VN? What would you change? S30V and S35VN have a nice balance of attributes that I really like. If you change and attribute it's going to change something else and throw off that nice balance.

I like trying all these different blade steels as much as the next person but sometimes I think we're just splitting hairs.

Lol okay that is a fair question. I guess its not so much of a need as a want/goal. Of course we're splitting hairs, thats why we need a next level s30v/s35vn lol.

The next level steels are going to happen naturally as technology advances. We couldve stopped at bronze and iron for our knives, but that wasnt good enough. And now its just to see who can make the best. Not something im opposed to, lets see what they can do!

As far as fulltime production however, next level steels will not work imo, just because it will drive prices up too much. Look at ZT using ultra premium steels like elmax, 204p, 20cv etc, even s35vn is their 'lowest' end steel, and look at their price points. Now their knives are very well built, but ive handled some and thought if i really paid full price for this i would've been disappointed. And if you arent able to service ultra premium steels, you def cant service super ultra premium steels, so that becomes a factor in their fulltime production as well.

Personally I'm a big fan of M390 and 20CV. Many of my newest acquisitions are in those steels and they're performing great and taking an excellent edge.

I'm not sure how many Sprint runs they made of the pm2 besides carbon fiber s90v, cruwear and rex 45. I think most of the other models are exclusives that can be made again. I'd love to hear the full list of sprint runs

I think it depends on the person. 20CV is plenty tough for many people, myself included, especially in platforms like the PM2/3, and I don't hink the added toughness of S35VN is significant. I appreciate Cruwear and tougher steels too, but feel some of the benefit is lost in folders. I don't do much chopping with my folders. I can certainly appreciate your preference for toughness in folders though, and I still want a PM2 in Cruwear!

If you "next level" a base steel, then naturally price will go up on the base model. The average consumer is not a knife nut like we are and could honestly give a crap about S30V vs 20CV, etc. Spyderco is trying to appeal to a wide range of people and keep cost reasonable on said base model. There are plenty of upgraded models for us to choose from, and no one offers more choices of exotic steels than Spyderco.

Another vote for a (reasonably-priced) tool-steel option to make full time production - if for no reason other than variety. Bonus points if that tool steel has two or three sprinkles of Cr to fight off pocket-sweat corrosion. CruWear is pretty much perfect!

While I'm on my CruWear soapbox -- anyone know if KW / Spyderco is planning a CruWear / G10 Para 3 to compliment the Para 2 that's on the market currently?

They already came out months ago with a para 3 CruWear. And it was like $20 more than S30V, I could not say no.
