Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? I have already opened the knife up and whenever I call Spyderco I get the same girl who tells me to send it in or my calls don't get returned ( on my third PM2 with blade play).

When I opened it up I found a burr in the pivot hole. I removed it but that didn't help. I tighten up the pivot t where I can open it relatively freely but there is still significant blade play.

Why not send it in like the warranty & repair tech suggested. I mean, they can't fix it over the phone or via email.

Don't be sorry. I still have about 3 weeks to return it or figure it out. I was just hoping for some help from forum members.

I would just return it. You've already voided the warranty and if the retailer can tell you modified it/opened it up, they won't let you return it.

Yeah, just send that sucker in for service. I bet it will be a warranty fix, but even if its not, the bottom line is that they'll fix it.

You do know that the Para2 pivot is tuned using both the pivot screws as well as the blade stop screws? All 4 screws affect the pivot, and all 4 must be perfect for it to be perfect. Adjusted properly, the Para2 should have no noticeable friction and no noticeable blade play, but it can take a lot of screwing around (lol get it?) to get it right.

I had a Military that came with a chunk of G10 stuck between the frame and one of the washers that was so big I could see daylight through. While reassembling, after I smoothed out the G10 in the pivot area and removed the piece of G10, I stripped out the threaded aluminum backspacer. Spyderco had me send in the knife, with a $20 check, and returned it with a brand new backspacer. "Void"ing the warranty just means that you might have to compensate them to fix the knife, at worst.

My warranty was only "void"ed because I destroyed the backspacer, not because I took the knife apart.

We manufacture knives with all screw construction not because we want you to take them apart. We do so, so our Crew can take them apart for maintenance and repair. I'm sure there might be some other questions, but bottom line, if you take your knife apart, the warranty is void.

"Spyderco’s warranty does NOT cover DAMAGE CAUSED BY abuse, misuse, loss, improper handling, alterations, accident, neglect, DISASSEMBLY , or improper sharpening."
You've been reading it wrong. It is only voided if you damage it during disassembly.

I know what the back of the box says, but that's not what TazKristi at Spyderco said.

You've disassembled the knife and modified the pivot and you're still considering returning it to the dealer? They must have the most generous return policy I've ever heard of!

I think your best bet is to send it in and have the warranty department have a look at it.

Yeah, pass the problem that you made worse on to someone else, that's a standup thing to do. You bought it, you opened it and voided your own warranty because you have no patience, it's yours.

Just send it it, they'll fix it anyway, if not for a couple bucks.

The pivot screws should be used to adjust lateral pivot play. The stop pins should only be used to adjust how freely the blade swings on the pivot. Manufacturing tolerances sometimes result in pivots that are oversized in the Para 2 and other knives that used the stepped pivot system. The fix is to replace the pivot with a shorter pivot or to carefully remove metal on the oversized pivot.

I remember the thread. The important part is bolded below:

Just because something is "technically" void, it doesn't mean they won't take care of you - it means that it is their option to do so or not.

I don't see how people do not understand this! Its one of those kinda under the table things. Yes disassembly voids your warranty, but for the most part if you don't make it sooo obvious that you did so, hey it may just slide... Spyderco sure as hell isn't going to have a policy that allows the disassembly of their knives by any dumba$$ out there, but they are an awesome stand up company that understands its customers (knife enthusiasts that like to maintain and learn about their knives)so... it is what it is.
