Just got my first PM2 today. It's black/satin plain edged, as plain as can be, but I got a great deal on it as a used folder here in the for sale forum (it's in great condition!). I swapped the shiny clip with the black clip from my delica 4 (makes both look better IMO). I think I finally understand what everyone has been going on about. Such an amazing knife.
I used to hate spyderco, having never tried one I found them the ugliest knives on earth. I had several benchmades (551, 943, 690, etc.) and they were so beautiful I could never understand the love for spyderco knives. Well I've had a tenacious and delica for a while and learned to love both, but the PM2 is on a whole other level.
I see now why many say it's the perfect EDC, it's certainly more comfortable than either the benchmade griptilian or 943. The spyderco just feels like it was designed for apes with opposable thumbs: there's a big hole that sticks out even when closed to stick your thumb in, and the thumb ramp is very secure as opposed to slight jimping on the back of an otherwise straight blade. Combine that with a contour that just naturally makes you realize there are two possible ways to grip the knife (back or choked up) and it's really amazingly ergonomic. Even the flat G-10 scales feel great in hand with no rounding because the width of the knife is just perfect. The compression lock is just icing on the cake.
I think the only way this knife could be better (besides getting a fancy steel version) would be if the compression lock were replaced with an axis lock, but I know that's unlikely to happen since BM owns the patent. My problem with the compression lock is that for right-handed use it's kind of on the wrong side for easy unlocking, although I understand why it's there so as to prevent accidental opening while gripping the knife. Still it's much nicer than a standard liner lock both for strength and for comfort. Really an outstanding knife, will be my EDC for the present time.
