I just picked up the benchmade 940-1501,and I already have a pm2 in s110v steal, love both of them. I am looking forward buying another popular knife, any suggestion? What on my list are zt 0450cf, CR umnumzaan, and delica 4 with HAP40/wood handle. Thanks!

The ZT seems like the next step, that way you hit the big 3. Plus it'll give you some hands on experience with a flipper, which maybe you already have. Plus it'll give you some insight on ZT too.

thanks! I haven't owned a flipper yet, so it may be a good chance to have one. But I heard some of the quality issue with zt...you have any idea of that?

ZT's quality is actually some of the best for the money. I imagine they slip up on occasion, but from what I've experienced they're built extremely well. If you happen to get a lemon(I seriously doubt you will, though) ZT will take care of you for sure. So in short, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Side note, flippers are fun! While they're not my absolute favorite, I'm really glad I have a few in my possession. The best action out of mine definitely goes to my ZT 0900. Blew just about every other flipper away in terms of action.

ok, I may give it a try, thanks man!

My first 'real' knife was a 940 and then I ended up getting a spyderco Delica... sounds like I went the same route as you. But yes, I recommend looking at some flippers next like someone previously said.... I'm sort of in love with the flipper design. They're a bit more fun to fidget with than something like a 940.

If you don't want to break the bank, a lot of Chinese companies like Bestech and Ruike offer knives that feature G-10 scales and decent steels. The bestech Kendo is a superb flipper for the money. You get g-10 and D2 steel running on caged bearings in a $50 package. The Boker Kwaiken plus is another flipper I recently picked up which I also recommend

The 0450cf is a very nice little knife and I do like mine. It is quite similar in POU (philosophy of use:p) to the 940, not too much the PM2. You may or may not like the handle layout, as larger hands may not like it, but I have no issues with it.

As far as QC issues with ZT, I haven't heard of any as my (only) ZT is quite flawless, but then again my standards aren't all that high to begin with. After that, buy the 484 Nakamura:cool:.

hi, thanks for the reply! But I think if I'm going to pick up a flipper, I'll just choose zt. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Chinese knives are bad, but I just wish I can get something with great material, blade steel and quilty, which I am glad to put money on. Anyway, thanks!

Good choice. ZT is an excellent manufacturer of flippers and in many ways is considered the gold standard other companies try to match up with. They are some of the best American made flipper framelocks/linerlocks on the market in their price range. Their quality is high and very consistantly good.

thanks! I have large hands, so that is a point. I have found that the 484 be interesting...but how do the handle perform? It looks not that comfortable.

I have smaller "girly" hands, so all the sub 4 inch handles that most bit@h about, I can hold quite comfortably and the 484 is a dream to hold.

Oh, and if you do buy a 484, make sure you contact BM for a plain parkerized (sp?) "spoon" type clip. Then when it comes in, take the split arrow clip off and toss it as far away from you as possible (preferably off a cliff into the sea) and put on the regular clip. It makes the Nakamura so much more comfortable.

You can’t go wrong with any of those on your want list, zt make a great knife for your dollar and Spyderco are always on point. Noticed you added that an Umnumzaan was on your list, i have to say if you do ever pull the trigger you’ll be blown away by not only the quality of the build, but how unique and the amount of character it has. Absolutely love mine, it just has something about it that makes you want to hold it. Cheers

The zt 0450 is never a bad choice, but since its about the same size as the 940, maybe look at the other super popular ZT, the 0562cf.

It is about the same size as the pm2, but has a lot more cutting edge and just feels so robust, yet it carries better than the pm2.

If you like a smaller profile in pocket (height x width), the ZT 0609 is pretty fantastic. It has some unique features as well and flips like a dream.

If the Umnum is on the table, you might have to scratch that itch. Otherwise, you’ll always wonder what all the hubbub is about. Keep in mind that the thumb stud deployment just feels a little different than most. You almost have to develop a little muscle memory to get the right motion. Some like it, some don’t. It’s pretty great IMO.

Welcome to BF Peter. You are off to a great start.

ZT is a great choice. I don't have the 450CF but I have found that carbon fiber scales can be a little slick for my liking. They do lighten the knife and look good but I prefer G10 myself.

Maybe an owner of a 450CF or other ZT carbon fiber handle can chime in. I don't know, is all CF slick? I tend to avoid it.

I still love my ZT 200 and 350.

I would go ZT also, get a Sebenza after that. The 0562, 0566, 0393, and the 0450 you mentioned are excellent choices as well as some others.
