Pm2,940,what next?

I agree that a ZT should be your next choice. The 0460 is really sweet, so I assume all of the Sinkevich designs are. I'd buy the 0462 if I was in the market for another ZT right now. I own one Sebenza, very nice knife. You may want to consider an Emerson knife. I mostly buy Spydercos because of the amazing steel choices.

That’s a great start Peter. I’m not a flipper guy but I like the looks of the ZT452 and 609. I have big mitts also.

Maybe try out the new ZT 393. Or if you're looking for something slicey like the PM2 grab a manix 2.

Also, out of your WTB list I'd go with the Zaan.

The zt 0450 is never a bad choice, but since its about the same size as the 940, maybe look at the other super popular ZT, the 0562cf.

It is about the same size as the pm2, but has a lot more cutting edge and just feels so robust, yet it carries better than the pm2.
thanks for the advice!

I have smaller "girly" hands, so all the sub 4 inch handles that most bit@h about, I can hold quite comfortably and the 484 is a dream to hold.

Oh, and if you do buy a 484, make sure you contact BM for a plain parkerized (sp?) "spoon" type clip. Then when it comes in, take the split arrow clip off and toss it as far away from you as possible (preferably off a cliff into the sea) and put on the regular clip. It makes the Nakamura so much more comfortable.
hahaha ok I'll remember to do that XDD

yeah, I am also considering buying a manix 2 ....but it is kind of too big for me.(though the handle fits my hand very well). I'll check the 393, thanks!

yeah, I love Spyderco because of the wide variety of steel they produce(I also own a endura4 in zdp and Byrd in ctsbd1). I've tried Emerson knife and it turned out killing my pants pocket XDDD, but it was very fun to play with. Until now I like the 0452 the most, probably I will pick one. Thanks for the reply!

You can’t go wrong with any of those on your want list, zt make a great knife for your dollar and Spyderco are always on point. Noticed you added that an Umnumzaan was on your list, i have to say if you do ever pull the trigger you’ll be blown away by not only the quality of the build, but how unique and the amount of character it has. Absolutely love mine, it just has something about it that makes you want to hold it. Cheers
yeah I also heard that you won't go wrong picking up a CR, but it's kind of little too expansive that I need to consider it well before purchasing. But now I'm starting to save money for the next knife(by the way, I'm only 19 as a college student), and probably I'll give CR a try.thanks !

If you like a smaller profile in pocket (height x width), the ZT 0609 is pretty fantastic. It has some unique features as well and flips like a dream.

If the Umnum is on the table, you might have to scratch that itch. Otherwise, you’ll always wonder what all the hubbub is about. Keep in mind that the thumb stud deployment just feels a little different than most. You almost have to develop a little muscle memory to get the right motion. Some like it, some don’t. It’s pretty great IMO.
yeah, I've hold a umnum before, and find it hard to deploy.....but the seller told me just like you do that it takes some time to memorize the way to use it. I'll also check out the 0609, thanks!

Welcome to BF Peter. You are off to a great start.

ZT is a great choice. I don't have the 450CF but I have found that carbon fiber scales can be a little slick for my liking. They do lighten the knife and look good but I prefer G10 myself.

Maybe an owner of a 450CF or other ZT carbon fiber handle can chime in. I don't know, is all CF slick? I tend to avoid it.

I still love my ZT 200 and 350.
I love cf very much actually, I changed the pm2 scales into cf, and I like them! But it is just personal opinion.I'll check out the 200 and 350, thanks for the reply!

I should point out a few things to give some context.

1. I've never paid more than $140 or so for a knife. I got the 200 and 350 slightly used for about $110/120 each (normally $140). I've had them for years. I like many of ZT newer knives but I just can't justify spending that much. A $100ish knife, imo, gives a good combination of materials and quality.

2. Like I said in my previous post, I don't like carbon fiber or metal handles. I like the grippiness of G10 or micarta.

The 200 and 350 are fine knives but are two of ZTs earlier models. They might be a little "chunky" for some folks. If I had to suggest a ZT, I like the 450 in G10, 566, or 562. Either way, look over ZTs offering, they make a great knife for the price.

Good luck!

I started out with a CS and an Ontario Rat 1, added some Spyderco's and a ZT, and then started going down the Benchmade path. However, I never thought I'd appreciate the Buck folders until I grabbed one for the heck of it (late to the collection), and pretty soon ended up carrying a 112 (both with finger grooves and w/o) for a frequent and dedicated part of my rotation (although props to the Aluminum 110 CP with S30V from C&C).

I just picked up the benchmade 940-1501,and I already have a pm2 in s110v steal, love both of them. I am looking forward buying another popular knife, any suggestion? What on my list are zt 0450cf, CR umnumzaan, and delica 4 with HAP40/wood handle. Thanks!
IMO you can probably still play around in the 300 and under range if you want to. If you're ready for the big players, hold onto your wallet tightly lol

Spyderco, benchmade, ZT are the trifecta of American knife manufacturers. Some other good models listed were straight chinese. Not bad knives, but not made in the USA either. The 0909 can still be found for $129, and for the money, that’s a steel!

Since you're considering the 0450 and say you have large hands, I'll reiterate the suggestion of the 0609. The handle is slightly longer than that of the 0450, and it fits my XL hands really well. It's a fantastic knife all around.

You may want to think about what you perceive you're not getting with your current two knives. Maybe your next choice should be something different enough to fill a niche the other don't.

For instance, if you want something small and discrete but a supreme slicer, I'd recommend a Spyderco Chaparral. If slicing capability is important but you want something bigger and practically rustproof, I'd look at the SpydieChef.
