I own a couple spyderco PM2's, a Benchmade 550 grip, and a 555 grip. I just wanted to see what your opinions were on the new griptilians compared with the PM2's and the old Griptilians.

Thanks!

I have always thought the pm2 is much nicer knife. That said I got a chance to handle a couple of the new griptilions. I would say that I liked it more than the pm2. The improvement in materials changed everything.

No experience with new Griptilians. I know about the G10 handles, but did they also change the design?

I've owned several of both and only the large Grip remains in my rotation. I had a pair of the new G10 grip scales installed on my regular 154cm large Grip and they make the knife very solid. I ended up selling the G10 scales, I like the cheap hollow ones better.

The new Griptilian is certainly a nice knife, but it's also a significantly more expensive knife than the PM2. The PM2 is still my preference. Better geometry.

The new grip is really nice. I would say the old grip since the price is much cheaper. The pm2 has a thinner blade, so advantages and disadvantages to that, but the new 20v grips slices really well.
I have owned pm2, and probaly 10+ grips, honestly cannot go wrong with pm2 or any grip for that matter.

I have old Grips and a PM2. No experience with the new Grips. In my opinion, the PM2 is the perfect folder from an ergonomic standpoint. Perfect folder from an aesthetic standpoint. Damn near perfect from a materials standpoint. My two cents.

I own the PM2 and the Old grip I was mainly interested in what the general opinion on the new style grips were as to if it's worth buying?

I like them both[PM2 & 551-1 Grip] equally... The new Grip with its slightly thinner G10 handle provides a more confident handle purchase than the standard Grip and its rounder contoured handle fills my hand better than the PM2. PM2 is an easier carry being lighter and thinner but Grip carries deeper from the factory. The 551-1 is a bit more expensive however its price is right in line with what other 204P/M390/20CV offerings are going for and it comes with a low rider clip

Camp Perry g10 scales made my Grip so much better.

Still like my CTS-XHP PM2 better

For me it would come down to blade steel.

I PERSONALLY HATE S30V, and 20CV is again, in my PERSONAL opinion, one of the best steels out there.

That, to me, makes up for the $ difference, and makes it an easy decision.....

Actually the Griptilian has a thinner blade. It is .115" thick and the PM2 blade is .141" thick. I am speaking of the full size Grip BTW.

This question has been covered a lot. I think it's a general consensus that the new "-1" style Grips ARE worth the premium over the original. The huge improvement in steel, nice G10 scales, deep carry clip and anodized standoffs/liners mean the sum is greater than the parts. The only complaint I've heard over the new Grips is they aren't as "grippy" as the old, Zytel handles.

In terms of comparison with a PM2, I think the new grip compares favorably. The 20CV steel is a huge win over S30V and the Grip handles seem to feel of higher quality than the Spyderco G10. I give the PM2 an edge in general ergos and it's a lot cheaper. The Axis lock and Compression lock are probably neck and neck in terms of my favorite lock, although both can be prone to developing blade play.

You really need to get both so you can decide for yourself ;).

I have a few of both and could never choose one over the other. They are both fantastic knives! I love the different blade options on the Grips and I love the sprint run Para 2s.
Gun to my head I have to go PM2.....it's sexier.
