PM2 and similar models.

I'm a huge PM2 guy and ever since I bought a Delica, it's been seeing daily pocket time. It is a bit smaller, but also quite a bit cheaper. Buy two in case he loses one :D. My vote is for a Delica

The Manix2, Para2, Stretch2 and Gayle Bradley2 are all about the same size but they all have different locks. I would pick one of them. The GB2 is amazing.

The Native, Sage and Chaparral are all a bit smaller than the Para2.

Every para2 I've got is a little brother to its similarly patterned military. The exchange here is a great place to buy one

If he liked the pm2 then he liked the compression lock. The guy probably did like the rest of us and flicked the knife open and closed 1k times a day. He needs a new pm2. I say buy him another and buy him a g10 manix 2 as well. That way he gets his pm2 fidget flicker, a dose of manix 2, and you'll never have to post this question again because he'll start buying more and more on his own...
Even if I'm carrying the manix 2 I can still make it a fidget just as easily as a pm2. In fact I think I prefer it more maybe it's just mine but the manix is smoother and opens and closes more freely with the lock back compared to the pm2.

IMO due to its design features the PM2 has something unique to it and it can be difficult to find a good replacement

If as you said there may be something your son doesn't like much about the PM2 it can be a good thing to investigate what it is

Here are some ideas:
Poor blade/handle ratio
Too long blade
Too short blade
Thin handle profile
Compression lock
Choil reducing edge length
Not a flipper
Weird blade shape due to spydie hole

Depending of what you think can be an improvement for him some proposition can be easy to find for sure

According to his position maybe a smaller more "urban" knife may be a better option for him
I am partial to the PM2 as it is my favourite spyderco but a Delica 4 or a Sage 2 CAN always be recommended

Delica 4: best slicer I have. It is a back lock. I don't use the pocket clip, I have tied a lanyard and just toss it in my pocket. It is so light I don't really notice it during the day. Never lost it

Sage 2: shorter blade with nice scales. It is a liner lock. The deep carry wire clip is great but need to be use as INO it is quite roomy in the pocket which offer a good feel in hand when you use it

If the spydie hole bugs him you can look at ZT or Benchmade

ZT has great knives but most of the time they are heavier than the PM2

BM 940/943 series, mini and standard griptilian are good EDC

The new Shaman seems like a great Knife. I believe it should be in the stores soon if not already. It seems to be a Native on steroids with a compression lock.

Thanks, bloody! I love my Delica but my son isn't a fan I'll probably get him another PM2.
Sorry to read your Son lost his PM2. Spyderco has so many cool models, that a knife enthusiast could go nuts . I'd get him another PM2.
I love the PM2 so much that I bought a second one in case I loose mine someday.

Funny how different people have different tastes. The list above is what I actually like about my PM2's. I like the long handle, blade length is perfect for me, slim profile fits well in my pocket, I hate flippers, and I love the compression lock.

Same for me, I was just making a list of drawbacks I have read often on the forums
Just like you that surprise me since that is exactly what I like ;)

I'd say just get another PM2, but things I would suggest are the Para 3, Stretch, Manix, or just be unique and go for a Battlestation!
