Recommendation? PM2 or American Lawman for lefty

I am left handed also and the American Lawman is one of my favorite knives.
If you do go Spyderco though I suggest the Manix 2.

The lightweight version is what I prefer but the G-10 is great too.

If you’d kept the CRK, you could have avoided this thread :p

I completely regret selling the CRK. If I had held onto it, I think I probably would have gotten over my reluctance to use it. To be honest, I've considered going back down the CRK road. Then, I start to wrestle with large vs. small Sebenza vs.'Zaan, and blade shapes and my head begins to spin. My wife listened to a podcast with me in the car on which Tim Reeve was interviewed the other day. She isn't interested in knives but loved that CRK a family business committed to quality and gave me the green-light to buy one for my upcoming 50th birthday. Maybe....

Both are easy to operate with either hand.

For the money the cold steel is really hard to beat but if your budget allows you to purchase something for more money then I'd rather get the PM2.

The steel is not better on the lawman. Its different. Plus I'm not a fan of Taiwan and China made knives other than for back up blades.

I did pick up a OD green and XHP lawman. Now that is another animal.

It sounds like your wanting a Lawman more anyway. It will break in and operate nice and smooth. Go for it!

Thanks for all of the feedback. I'm always grateful for how much I learn from the fine people on this forum. The posts were very helpful and led me to explore some more options. I'm more drawn to the looks of the Lawman and since a lot of people have confirmed what I've read about it being a great knife, I'll probably pick one up.

In the meantime, I found a lefty Sebenza 21 (large insingo, micarta) on the exchange and pulled the trigger. It's already shows evidence of being well-loved so I won't be hesitant to put it to use.

I'm glad I only get to pick up new knives once a year (with the exception of an occasional Condor knife, since they're made here in El Salvador!). This hobby can get expensive, fast.

Thanks again to all.

Consider getting the PM2 and the Lawman and leaving off the Bugout. You ll like both of these better. The Lawman is the strongest work knife of the three, and the PM2 will be better than the Bugout in all respects at less than 1 oz heavier.
As to reluctance to get a Taiwan knife like the Lawman, many think Spyderco s best made knives come from Taiwan.
If concerned about the use for self defense, the Recon1 is a fine edc that carries quite easily for a 4 inch blade. The Cold Steel knives are the best bargains of all mentioned.
Finally, if s30v and s35vn steels have about the same edge retention, but s35vn is the tougher steel, many would think it is the better steel.

I don’t think the PM2 is all that comfortable in hand I don’t think I’d buy it as a one and out option

My vote is for the PM2. They're going to be the sharpest out of the ones you mentioned and IMO the most comfortable.
The AL will handle more abuse but the PM2 will carry lighter in the pocket.

I have both and love both but my PM2 finds its way into my pocket more. The PM2 is also more fun to fidget with if you value that.

Both are excellent knives though.

Actually the lawman weights 3.9oz which is the same weight as the PM2. Lawman also has deeper carry and have a thinner handle, so unless the width of the closed knife matter, the lawman actually carries better than the PM2.

Sharpness has nothing to do with the model of knife, only the person who put the edge on it. Also the new Lawman is the same weight as the pm2. They're both great knives, try handle them both before you choose, it might end up coming down to looks and feel in hand.

I just generally like Spyderco better than CS because overall their knives are more comfortable to me than CS, but comfort and ergonomics are kind of subjective. If they're the same weight then it does just come down to how it feels in hand.
I hear better things about Cold Steel than I used to but they still seems so bulky.

I think the real decision maker for me would be what you are going to use the knife to do. I have had a similar Spyderco (it's late... the name escapes me...) and it was a great knife for general purpose. But I prize a work knife.

I understand it is a personal preference and I have seen a few skinned up PM2s that have been used pretty well. But for me, it's the CS AL the whole way. For me, it carries better in the pocket since it lays very flat. In the hand, it is better to me for harder use on the job site. The blade is stout, strong, and easy to sharpen. Of course there is the infallible lock, which does nothing but inspire confidence after using it for a few years and have it lock up like it did on day one. And when using the CS AL for work, the lockback knife is easier for me to operate when my hands are really sweaty or when I am wearing gloves.

Since the CS AL is plenty affordable at about $80, that makes it the clear winner over the PM2 at $150. That difference could be used to buy another knife!
