ok so i looked at the whole spyderco forum and couldn't find anything on this so unless im missing something please do not be disrespectful! i am looking towards my FIRST spyderco knife and i am between the pm2 and the manix 2. i like both of these knives but i can only get one. i wanna know which one seems more of a long lasting knife. i am alright with the weight of the manix2 so weight is not a problem, i just want to know which knife seems to be stronger, better, better ergonomics, etc! pictures are always encouraged! thank you all who respond

I leaned towards the manix 2. I did not like the ergonomics of the para2.

The manix2 is far more solid with a thicker blade.

The para is more refined and a better slicer.

It comes down to what you want in a EDC.
My advice would be to handle both, if that's not possible I would go for the manix2.

I have a manic 2 xl and several paramilitaries. Both have great ergonomics, but manix is wider. handle both of you can then pick, they're both stout and good cutters, but I find myself carrying the pm2 more often.

They are both going to be as rugged as you need them to be. Seems like the real choice is which one is more appealing to you or has a more useful blade geometry for your purposes.

+1

...except to these hands, the Paras ergos are superior. Also, I have found the Manix to be a bit wide in pocket. Its definitely doable, but takes up a lot of real estate. Though both have found permanent homes in my collection, I try to make it a practice to never say 'buy both'...but the truth is, you just might. :D

They are both great knives and neither really has any advantage in "ruggedness". I prefer the Paramilitary for a few reasons.

1. Pm2 has a more comfortable handle that accommodates more different grips. - subjective
2. Pm2 has a more useful blade shape. -subjective
3. Pm2 carries slimmer in pocket. -fact

I have a PM2, for blade and handle geometry. Thicker blade, full flat grind and a very useful pointy point. Jimping on the PM2 is spot on and slimmer profile and lighter weight makes for a great edc. The compression lock delivers but requires extra work when closing.

Can't go wrong with either one. All the best :)

Having purchased both, my answer is Manix2.
*However, changing the scales on the PM2 made a huge difference - I actually like/carry/use it now...in fact, I like it better than the Manix2. (I didn't change my initial response because I assumed the question was about the knives in stock form)

oh no, i plan on customizing them (changing handles and such) and like i said. i was trying to find something on this and came up with the para vs the military or the manix vs sage 1.

Pm2 vs manix 2 is like apples to oranges. Different lock, size, shape. I would go with the pm2 because it fits me and my needs better.

I like and use both knives, different tasks different knife. The Manix is more comfortable for me but I like the PM2 as well, I don't think you can say one is better, they're just different and you have to try them for yourself. You can probably pick up the PM2 for $110 and a combo edge Manix for about $85 (probably less buying second hand). The Bd-1 lw Manix's can also be had for a good price but they can't be customized as much as they have pinned handles. The s110v lw Manix is a hard knife to beat on price vs performance. Considering the prices of these knives it's hard to believe that Spyderco make any profit from them.

I have and carry both quite often, but I suppose if I had to chose between the two, I'd go PM2 by the slimmest of margins. The compression lock is such a clever design. Both are off the chart in terms of ergos, and I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but I ever so slightly prefer the lead shaped blade over the PM2 in terms of everyday cutting tasks. It's just not enough to sway it as my preference of the two.

I have both and while I love the look and the ball lock of the Manix 2, the PM2 is carried far more often, due to weight, size, and ergonomics.

How is the lock up on the pm2? I've never seen one before (or atleast with that name) and I don't know if it will fail or not. I am not going to use my knife for survival but purely edc (food prep, box cutting, rope cutting, etc)
