PM2 with liner lock?

Have you tried to get EBay from selling them? I have told them there were fakes and they just say they will investigate and nothing comes of it. What actions are/have you taken to fight the fakes with EBay, Amazon etc.

Hey, Nephron:
Just to add to what Sal replied, here's something that I posted on our own forum (where we have a dedicated section for counterfeits) 10 years ago. If you're not already a member of our forum, I would definitely recommend that you join and follow along in various developments or findings. Our legal team reviews that area of our forum and acts accordingly.

Spyderco is registered with the VeRO program. Two separate registrations in fact. We work very closely with EBay and have had success with having certain auctions removed. However, please keep in mind, there are many things going on behind our doors that we cannot discuss here. Ultimately, having "Bob's" auction taken down is not always in our best interest. Does it cause an issue for "Bob"? Of course, but it may not have any effect on the bigger picture.

Our biggest resource though in this constant battle is you. The links that y'all post here are key to our ability to address this issue. Not just on EBay, but on the internet as a whole. As I said when I started this sub-section, we would never be able to duplicate the number of eyes on this problem in-house compared to all of you. You are highly educated on the topic of Spyderco and byrd. You are interested and motivated and you genuinely care.

So, please keep doing what you're doing. Post links when you find questionable items. It may not seem like it, but I promise, we are looking and we are following up with each and every post.

Spyderco takes great pride in what we do. 33 years of hard work, our commitment to quality high-performance products and always striving to do business in a fair and proper manner is not something we're willing to sit back and watch get diluted or worse.

We sincerely thank you, each of you, for looking out for us. It does not go unnoticed and it is always appreciated.

I hope exposing it helps awareness, and makes buyers more vigilant. Either way, I would have returned it. I wouldn't want to support this in any way.

The downside with buying counterfeits is that it encourages the thieves to continue and it supports them. We spend lotsa dough on fighting these guys so we encourage people to not support them.

This is why I haven't bought a single fake even though I've been tempted. All my spydercos are genuine, all my Benchmades are genuine, all my ZTs, etc. Can't stand a fake or counterfeit, and buying them only makes prices higher on the real deal in the long run.

Thanks for posting this, have been curious for a while now what one looks like up close and disassembled. I was going to buy one to check it out. The problem is not you buying one, hell you could buy a hundred and it wouldn't make a bit of difference, its the thousands bought every day by OP across the world.

Okay, it is definitely a fake.

Nylon washers (which could be seen before disassembly).
Bronze lanyard tube.
Carbon steel.
All screws (except pivot), including clip screws, driven by a T6; pivot driven by a 2.5mm hex.

The Spyder was amazingly good. Only with 8x or 10x magnification could I see that the triangle in the head was not quite right.

The clip was way off, if it was the one that came on the knife. When I tried to move it to another location I realized the other location was not threaded. It was drilled and looked great, but it was not threaded. No jimping, top or bottom.

The Sal mark was pretty good, until you looked close, but the Eric was over-sized and just not at all right, at 8x.

However, I did get one bit of good news today -- I bought what was said to be a Persistence, which is one of my favorites even though it is just 8Cr13MoV, but realized it was a Tenacious when it arrived and was "too big." That's okay, I did not have one and now I'm glad I do! It is on the left below, beside its little brother, the Persistence. I guess I just like liner locks! :)

The "PM2 Liner Lock" will become a letter opener that I will use to show folks some of the ways to spot a fake.

We need to make the importation of goods with pilfered trademarks and/or patents a serious crime. Maybe put some of the folks laid off in the WuFlu shutdown to work in Customs!

I buffed a lot of rust off the internals before I took the photos, and the scales were quite worn, so I don't think the seller is making a HABIT of selling counterfeit knives. I also paid so little for it that it is not worth either my time to ship it back OR the risk of going into the Post Office these days.

I'm glad you found this useful, Nephron. I hope it helps others avoid buying counterfeits. I have bought about 20 Spydercos off eBay, almost all of them from individuals, and this was the first one that was counterfeit. Sure, it is a great idea to buy only from reputable dealers to be sure you are buying genuine, but I have saved a TON of money buying on eBay, at LEAST 10x what I paid for this counterfeit.

I don't like that someone sold a fake (to me or anyone else), but I'd rather put my time into convincing one of my congressional delegation to pass laws so that EVERY SINGLE SHIPMENT OF ANYTHING FROM CHINA gets carefully looked at by U.S. Customs and CONFISCATED if it contains thefts of trade marks or patents, or mis-marked materials ("fraud," as Sal says).

We should have done that years ago, and probably would have had it not been for the fact that so many of politicians have been "on the take" from China, either directly or through a relative.

Let's change that!
