Pocket Bushman Review and Controversy

I like my PB! i PURCHASED THE BLADE BECAUSE OF ALL THE CONTROVERSY! only to find out there is nothing bad to say about it.

I agree with edura_. I find my PB to benign. True it's dangerous, as are all knives that are good for cutting/slicing things.

You know, after reading through all this again I've gotten my out and practiced with it many times over the last couple days. I can only conclude that all PB's are not created equal because opening and closing the one I have couldn't be any easier. I don't even have to use the cord loop, using the grippers on the slide itself works just fine. Wet and muddy then yeah, the cord would be better. It's hard to understand why people with so much knife experience are having such difficulty with it unless these are not the same from one to the next.

Nope. They're all very consistent. Some people just understand how to properly use the lock, and others don't. :p

just ordered a pocket bushman.
a guy i spoke on annother forum used his one in wet conditions, when he pulled the cord the slippery handle slid through his hand leaving him holding the blade while still using force. he was cut pretty bad.

so i was thinking of using a file ( the tool not some paper) and roughening the handle a bit.
or take a chisel ( making myself work to remember english names of tools) and making some small carvings in it.
any ideas regarding this?

I see this is a rather old post and thread but in reading what you asked I just had to chime in.

I too had concern about the smoothness of the handle. What I came up with Really Really helped me to eliminate any concern of my hand slipping.

I looked and then measured where my hand is at on the handle and then added a little more. I cut off that amount of Black Gorilla Tape and evenly and nicely folded it over the top of the handle.

I would have used regular duct tape if I had it but since discovering the Black Gorilla Tape that is what I now use. That dark black contrasts nicely with the color and texture of the handle. That particular brand of tape has a slightly tacky touch to it anyhow - so using it for that specific purpose went together like peanut butter and jelly.

The PB is a well put together design and will do anything you ask a knife to do. Like any other type of folder - - - you must respect it and you'll be fine. Hope this helps someone.

Good vid. Wished I could open mine with one hand. But like I told you a while back - - it isn't happening and no one else with mine can do it either. :-) Other than that I do enjoy when I use it.
