Hi Folks,

I see that Tad gear offers some spy capsules from time to time (have one of them) but wondering if there are any alternative products with like functionality?

Would greatly appreciate any links / pics etc.

Need something tough/water tight.

Thanks,

sp

I can't remember where I saw the thread but I know it's out there.

Any old Maglites or similar that have given up the ghost. Well you can rip out the bulb end and seal it, either with some form of epoxy or if you're a little more skilled make a cap for it or solder and end over it.

Handy container and generally free as if you don't have a bust Maglite i'm sure a friend of yours will.

I'll be modding a couple of Maglites, in this way, next week. Will post them here if someone hasn't beaten me to it or found the original thread.

Here is the mini maglight capsule I made Cut off the bulb end, machined a teflon plug a little oversize for a press in fit, and used a little JB weld.

At your local pet shop. They sell them for dog and cat collars. Waterproof, small ( a couple of different sizes though,) and cheap!

These are some very nice folks. I have even bought new 1 qt. motor oil bottles for splitting up kegs of powder, shopping baskets, etc. They have so much stuff it sin't funny. I have bought in small lots.

I just ordered a bunch from these folks for "stocking stuffers."

Lee Valley just sent out another Holiday Gift Catalog and they have the smaller ones, but they have Nite-Eyes S-carabiners too. Worth a look for numerous, well-made items and very nice people with whom I have done business for many years.

I have links for sites that sell "tin" containers as well and one where you can buy spankin' new tobacco tins, unmarked, but they cost almost as much as the ones with good Danish pipe tobacco in them. Let me know if you are interested in containers of those sorts and I will dig up the links.

Edit: I forgot to mention - the cheap, plastic blaze orange match safes are great for storing a lot of stuff. They will hold (2) CR123As nicely and a little piece of foam in the bottom or the cap keeps them from rattling.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions!

Kind of bummed :(, could have sworn I had an old Mag light in my fishing vest - guess it's MIA - really wanted to go with a set up like you mentioned Stomper - that's really cool.

I'm to impatient I guess, had to pick up a prescription at CVS and found a really durable little sealed Aluminum NitroGlyc bottle holder - it holds a fair share of meds, so I went with that for the short term until I find the Mag light.

The capsule will take care of back up compass/fishing/sewing stuff/snare wire/sealed razor blades/duct tape & a little fat wood, and just hooked on the pill bottle to the keyring beside it to cover the meds along side the BSA HS/SAK.

BTW found a great little way (probably heard of it here and just can't remember) to keep the line from being tangled potentially for multiple uses by cutting off the ends of Bic pens and wrapping the thread around it and snapping the ends on to hold the line in place, + you can store your various needles inside.

Did the same thing with the fishing line, and made it just long enough to hold 3 small cone weights inside - man I wish I could post pics - would love to show you.

Thanks again,

sp

Wrack Works from Jazebra are really nice pill fob type capsules, in several sizes. Stainless steel, Made in the US, and tough....they ain't the cheapest though...

Walmart sells the pill/nitro fob. I had to ask for help finding them, they were with the thermometers. Some of those spy capsules are too small.

Those are nice and are well made. They will hold 14 extra strength pain reliver caplets with a bit of cotton on top to keep them from jiggling. I got m order from Goingear tonight and the quality on everything is very good - prices lower than others too. The square-ended one referred to as the "battery" capsule (I think because it looks like one) is about the same size as the one from Wal-Mart but about half the cost. The match cases are pretty nice too but I did need to put on a larger o-ring for a good seal. No bigee. Very pleased with the containers and the service. He even threw in a couple extra "scuba" capsules, a bullet whistle and a wire snap carabiner just for no good reason. All nice stuff if you're looking for such things.

Walgreen has some smaller, water tight, stainless steel capsules for around $4. They are heavy as compared to aluminum, but you can drive over them with no issues.

Guys - ponied up and got a couple of K&M Matchcases ( I long brass / 1 standard brass) - It's one of the few things purchased that exceeded my expectations, MUCH more room that my Tad gear life capsule @ 1/3 of the cost.

Today's Contents in the long:
4 Needles/12 ft of heavy Thread (needles housed inside end of a bic pen / line wrapped on the outside)
approx 20 ft Fishing Line / 3 hooks/ 3 sinkers (sinkers housed inside end of a bic pen, line wrapped on the outside)
4 safety pins
approx 8ft of snare wire (wrapped about 4 more feet on the outside as well)
Fatwood (about the width of 5 matches side by side)
6 strike anywhere Matches / strike side (after all it is a match case :D)
2 Sterile Razors.

Very comfortable to carry in the pocket.
Awesome thing is you CAN put one of those mini saks down in it if you want!
No way that would fit down in the T.Gear capsule.

K&M will get more business from me  - If you don't have one, please check them out!!
Shipped next day after order.

Barrabas,
Any chance you could put up a pic, so I could get an idea of size?

I got a bunch of tube vaults from County Comm. I'll probably give http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/product/1367 my next order. These "baby soda bottles" are super! Not just capacity, but ...

you can see what's inside at a glance
I save up bottle caps from different drinks so I can color code them
they are extremely durable

they are watertight as is --
I have one filled with water for a couple of months now, just to test it.

I also have a few small capsules from www.edcdepot.com which are great for keeping Excedrin handy. :)

Hmm, those Spangler ones are interesting! I might try to find the supplier so I can sell them individually at a decent price...

flipe - sorry man, can't post pics as my home computer is still on the fritz :(
Rest assured though as soon as I can get it up to par I will.
