Pocket Carry breakthrough

No need at all to turn in your "man card." IMO, knowing how to do something like sewing is one more skill that allows you to do more for yourself. I wish I could sew, and will probably learn how at some point, at least to a rudimentary degree.

All joking aside, you’re right, it’s a useful skill especially for fixing gear and making stuff for my kids. A couple years ago I was fixing my son’s snow pants on my 100+ year old treadle and I thought about what that machine might have sewn in that time. The history of an object interests me. It’s why I like to know a bit about where a knife has been if I buy a previously owned one.

Do you guys over there not have an extra internal pocket in your front pockets?

Think 5th pocket on jeans but larger (PM2 size) and deeper in the pocket (below the lip of the pocket opening)

Imagine a fabric pocket knife slip sewed to the pocket lining, on the side closest to the leg

You can carry whatever you like, fully concealed, yet easily accessible. No fishing around the bottom of your pocket or reducing the width of the front pocket opening.

I normally wear dress pants in the office and can carry a PM2 no sweat, with no one the wiser.

Works for me

Nothing wrong with sewing or knowing how. Two years of home ec in junior high saved my backside freshman year of college. Nasty knee injury, no cell phone. Sewed my knee up to stop the bleeding until the medics got to my dorm. Sterilized it with whiskey I wasn't supposed to have. I was already in so much pain I didn't even feel it.

At the hospital the doctor was very impressed with my sewing, especially under stress. That was, jeez, 21 years ago. Still have the scar. It's very faded, but I can barely make out the holes.

On a better note, I've a few pairs of shorts that all sorts of pockets within the pockets like that. They have a small pocket specifically for a knife. O'Neill Traveler utility hybrid shorts.

When I use my sewing machine I tell myself it’s an industrial shop tool. No different than a bandsaw table saw or lathe. My man card is still intact.

My sewing machine IS an industrial shop tool:

I am an equal opportunity sewer, I do not discriminate. I sew for men:

My pants wear out, I get new ones. These guys, wear out? Not so much.

I sew:

All, or mostly all of the dress pants I own have a watch pocket inside the right front pocket (that's what you're describing). Few of my non-dress pants have such a thing. I normally do NOT wear dress pants in the office, so I'm a back pocket, pocket carry, or occasionally clipped to the right front pocket kind of guy.

If you don’t expose the clip of your knife how are we supposed to know what you are carrying?

This was an “aha” moment for me but this has likely been done before. I still wanted to share it though. Like many of you I pocket carry my knives and use the pocket clip to keep it in place. Sometimes I don’t want it riding on my pocket but I don’t like it in my pocket because it usually falls horizontal and is irritating when I sit down.

The “aha” moment came when I sat down to sew some mods on my edc bag. Being able to sew is a really useful skill and as I was creating a new pocket on my bag I thought why don’t I do something similar to my pockets. I took off my pants and sewed some internal dividers in my right front and back pockets that are just the right width for my average knife. They work well. They keep the knives upright in either pocket and I can either put them all the way in or use the pocket clips to keep them more accessible. The added bones is the knives stay separated from things like phones, car keys and change.

This may not work for all pants but if you know how to sew or know someone who does then I think it’s worthwhile to look into it if you like to keep your knives a certain way in your pockets when carrying them.
Nice idea. An alternative suggestion for those not as skilled in such alterations:

Didn’t read all the posts but certain dress slacks have this already. I purposely buy these kinds as I can’t have a knife showing a lot at work. My current dockers brand have them from factory sewn in right front pocket. Just a fyi

I’ve had one pair of pants that had an internal pocket but all it was good for was holding coins and it was in the front corner of the pocket. So far I’m loving my pocket mod. My knife is right where I like it. Even when not clipped it stays put
