Pocket Carry of Single Blade in a Slip

When you carry your traditional folder in a slip, which end goes into the slip first?

I routinely carry in a leather slip. Increases the likelihood of them staying in my pocket. So, not wanting the knife to slip out of the slip, I will load it whichever way is the most secure. Obviously varies with knife and slip.

I put them in whichever way squeezes back out the easiest.

Since the butt is typically the wider end and the sips get tighter towards the bottom, it's far easier to get the knife out that way rather than the other way. Plus, as mentioned above, the pivot is better protected from lint and crud.
IMO, Planterz nailed it -- wider end up and narrower end down into the slip.

Guess I'm in the minority. I have typically carried pocket knives loose in my pocket, but since I received my Laguiole a few months ago, I always carry it in the leather pouch it came with. I carry it with the tip down and with the pivot end up:

Two reasons: (1) the pouch was obviously intended to be used this way; and (2) that is how I received it from the maker. I have had no problems.

But if I carried a different knife in a pouch or slip, I might carry it the other way. For example, I would probably carry a trapper with the tip up and the pivot side down, like I carry it in my belt sheath.
I don't think you're in the minority, Vince. The original question might be misleading us by focusing on the wrong knife feature. Many of us want the narrower end of the knife to go into the slip first to facilitate squeezing the knife out (like a "push pop" treat ;)). For many knife patterns, the pivot end turns out to be the narrow end. But for your Laguiole, or my toothpick, or other patterns, the pivot end is wider and hence goes into the slip last.

So even though I voted for "pivot end first", there are many exceptions and my practice is more accurately described as using the principle "narrow end first".

I like knife slips from CKs and KnivesShipFree . KnivesShipFree sell those Northwoods leather magnetic flap over the pocket slip. Most collectors hate the price. Worth ever dime to me, perfect for 3.5" to 4 1/4" folder knives. My knife stays in position at the top of my left pocket "tip up". Quick Easy access index finger-thumb grab and ready to open super quickly. I just bought a small fixed blade "snakewood" knife with pocket slip. I keep that one down in my right pocket for a quicker cross draw. I can drive my truck and sleep with it in my right pocket. I forget that it is ever on me. My favorite EDC knife. I never carry guns , I'll blow ya head off.

5K Qs 5K Qs When I asked the question, I had my Wright's lambfoot in mind as that is my most carried knife now. Makes perfect sense to put the small end in first (the pivot end) and squeeze it out of the slip. Although, I squeeze the edges of the slip a little while shaking it out into my waiting hand's palm. :)
