pocket carry paramilitary

I just bought a new Paramilitary today, and I really like it. I'd like to use it for pocket carry sometimes, as it seems like a really useful size and shape. My concern is, I've never carried a pocket clip knife that was tip down only. I like the tip up pocket clips, because having the spine of the blade resting up against the side of the pocket reassures me that the blade will stay closed. So, question is: who uses their Paramilitary as a day to day pocket knife? Will it open in my pocket and cut me? Also, any opinions on carrying it the left side pocket for complete reassurance would be great, i.e. is that goofy, if you saw it would you laugh at me? etc.

I carry mine IWB, right side, just behind the hipbone. Easy to get to. Works great. Leaves my pocket for other things.

What about carrying it in your left pocket? Me think it would be very safe that way, but I guess you'd have to get used to it. On the right, the thumb ramp jimpings can get in the way when you reach in your pocket.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, and good point about the thumb ramp, it does scrape the hand when reaching into that pocket. I've kept it in the left pocket tonight, and it sets my mind at ease, and it feels fine there. Great knife by the way. I think this one will be one of my favorites.

If a custom clip doesn't get you (STR's are GREAT), try carrying either
A) in the inner fold of your pocket (crease between hip and groin)
B) right rear pocket (which I do).

In my EDC rotation, I carry my D2 Paramilitary in my right pocket and it's never come open on me. However, if it's that much of an issue, carrying it in your back-right pocket tucked up against the right seam is a viable option as many other members have suggested.

I do and have never had a problem with my PM or my Military. This was at work in my BDU pants but it is just as friendly in jeans or kakis.

Carry it quite often and never had a problem like you're concerned with. I did however create a large scrape on the car door with the clip whle getting into the car not too long ago!

Do I EDC? yes it is in my EDC rotation.

Will it open in my pocket? the para has a nice blade detent that keeps the blade from just falling open, I have never had it open in my pants and I have carried it for months.

LFP carry? Its your knife carry it however you want, just be careful if you carry it in your back pocket and you "slide" into a a wooden chair because you may put a large scratch in it.

would you laugh at me? HECK NO, if I saw someone carry a knife in their left pocket and I spotted a spyderco clip I would probably be a little ecstatic.

That's precisely why I carry in my rear pocket with a rounded STR clip, no scratches ;).

But it does work very well for me tucked into my jean's RFP, inner-corner.

Thanks again for all the good suggestions guys. I've been experimentally carrying it around in my right front pocket, and finding I'm pretty confident in it staying closed. It's become my favorite so quick it astonished me, something about the whole design is just really pleasing and useful. Incidentally it's the first US made model I've owned. I think it's time to give the military a try too. I think one of those would carry real well behind the ear like a pencil too ;)

I carry everything IWB now. Less obtrusive, doesn't matter whether it's tip-up or -down.
