Pocket carry preferances?

Hey guys, I got a question for ya. How many of you carry your slippies in your back pockets? I ask this because my Super Tinker, which normally gets carried either in my left front pocket, or my right hand watch pocket, always seems to get all sandy and gunky, seeing how at work during a show I will clean my hands on my jeans, and the sand gets into my pockets. However, my back pockets are pretty sand free. It just feels.... wierd, to carry a pocket knife in my BACK pocket. What do you guys think? Pros, cons? Thoughts? Pocket knife carry ethics? What's the deal?

I do it both front and back pockets, depending on the situation. For me, the back pocket next to my wallet is a good spot, but in summer is definitely going to be a sweatier environment than the front pocket. Next to my wallet, I hardly notice that it's there.

I carry my sodbuster Jr in my back left pocket daily now. It seems to stay cleaner and dryer than the front pockets. I actually think it is more comfortable in the back pocket.

I prefer to carry a larger sized folder in my back pocket. I did get used to this carrying a microtech for six months. Now I have come back to the traditional world I am looking to have my new EDC fitted with a clip for back pocket carry. The knife is a wharncliffe copperlock case with yellow handle and cv blade.

I made the knife that I carry in my backpocket....a Bose 4.5" "Backpocket" pattern. BIG KNIFE! I hardly notice either, same as lambertiana. It usually ends up slipping inside of my trifold wallet. Sometimes it will lay horizontally after some up and down ladders or laying on the floor to get at some computer cabling but it generally doesn't cause any grief. It has NEVER slipped out of my pocket and will never get gouged up by keys or whatever back there.

Front pocket carry for me. I do have to say that I'm trying to figure out what to do when I carry a larger heavier EDC though. I wear suits to work and I hate a long knife going horizontal in my front pocket. Some of my pants have the little change pocket on the inside which is great, because it keeps my knife upright. I'm considering getting one of those little knife pouches to help keep it upright, but I'll probably make one that is very thin and not one of the thicker leather pouches like I've seen here. When I carry a clip knife I go inside the waistband which is nice because all pockets are free.

I almost never carry a knife in my back pocket. Always in my right front, exept when I'm wearing milspec fatigue pants, then it goes in the right leg pocket. With the flap and button closure the leg cargo pockets seem to stay pretty dirt resitant, and a light weight pocket knife like a sak cadet or small soddie is not noticed.

slippies always go in my front right pocket. Clip knives always go in back right pocket.

Just feels right that way.

Best,
Brett

My WH is always in a small leather sheath, and in my front left pocket. If you do much driving, a billfold or knife actually will force your back out of alignment and you will get a back ache from sitting one sided for long periods of time, take the junk out of your back pockets when driving and you will feel better on arrival. The longer the trip, the truer this is.:D

my 2 cents, no change required.

I carry my knife in the front right pocket. I don't much like how this arrangement means that the knife gets scratched up by my keys, but nothing else feels right.
I wouldn't want anything in my back pocket except a hanky; too uncomfortable.

Front right pocket with nothing else in there. I'd be afraid it could fall out of my back pocket when I take out my wallet.

Blur in rh rear pocket. Native S30V now in LH front - wallet in LH rear. RH front has a Mika holstered 642 - spare speedloader in LH front.

Chiropractors recommend that you carry nothing in your back pocket. Especially (if there is such a thing) a thick wallet. It throws off the allignment of your spine.

I carry my big clip knivea in my back pocket opposite of my wallet. Such as Spydercos, Buck Odessy, Schade Switchit. It is really a handy way to be able to get to a knife quick.

S&W 642 Airweight Centennial, right front pocket.
KoD (Knife of the Day), left front.
Timex pocketwatch, watch pocket.

I've had enough back problems, still do, and have had the same admonishments about keeping things out of your back pocket. I don't carry a wallet or anything else in my back pockets usually. If I find a knife that is comfortable in my back pocket for a day's carry, I might carry it there. I clip my keys on my belt loop and tuck the fake rattle snake rattles (made of cordage and given to me by a fellow in Sweetwater, Texas, when I did his and his wife's portrait.) in my back pocket. My work EDC has to ride comfortably in my right front pocket with my cell phone to the inside of it. There will be loose change in there as well, up to a point when it gets too bulky. Then I take the change out and stash it in my locker until I go home. Sure, the knife, and the phone, gets scratched up now and then, but it it's going to be carried for a working companion, I kind of expect it to get some "character" marks. I earned mine! ;)

EC, can you get away with having a vertical seam sewn in the back pocket to divide the pocket so you have a tube to put the knife in? If the back pockets are flapped the flap can still fasten over the rear pocket. You will just have the pocket set up so you have a built-in vertical space to carry your knife.

Right front pocket in a clip pouch that rides inside the pocket. I have three different sizes. I purchased one (William Henry Clip Case II) and made the other two.
