Did Scagel himself do blade holes, or someone later who bought his name? Veering a bit off topic, I realize.

We consider the Scagel hole traditional on the Northwoods and Scagel knives. I'm not able to open my Scagel knives one handed. I can't imagine the slot was designed for that reason. The slot is shaped more like a nail nick to my mind.
I think Frank summed it up pretty well in his post. Maybe we can edit the sticky to include some of his points. These questions do come up once in awhile.
