Pocket Clip barrel screw necessary?

hey guys, this question is for anyone with experience or knowledge on this subject, but a response from someone at Spyderco would be awesome. my question is this: I have an s30v Native made in Golden, and i was wondering if the barrel screw which holds the pocket clip on is important to the structural integrity of the handle. I love my native but since i prefer to carry inside the pocket i have removed the clip. should i remove the barrel screw as well to make this featherweight even lighter? or does it have some structural importance such as holding the FRN together, or is the FRN handle a single molded piece?

Looking closely at mine, it looks like there is a seam there on the outside, but when I look inside where the blade rests I don't see a similar seam. . . I also see that I really need to clean the lint out of my knife. . . But to get back to the point, I would guess that the handle is a single solid piece, and the "seam" I'm seeing on the outside is just a mark from the molding process. I think you'd be fine carrying and using it without the barrel screw in there. Of course, this is just my non-official, non-professional opinion, and I could be totally wrong so you may want to wait for a response from someone who actually knows.

yeah i noticed the same seam on the outside thats why i was wondering if the handle is a single piece and the seam is just a byproduct of the injection molding, or if it is in fact two separate pieces fused together, in which case the screw may in fact add some structural integrity.

The seam you can see is just a "witnes" line from the moulding.

You should be able to take it out with no problems. If you do have any issues just put it back in !

I've carried and occasionally used an Salt I for a few years with both the clip and the bolt removed with no ill effects. On the other hand it does look a bit "cobby" compared with replacing the screw after removing the clip, and the weight saving is pretty darn small.

The handle is injection molded in one piece. The barrel bolt's only function is to hold the clip on.

I carried my Native in the watch pocket of my jeans for years with no clip and no problem.

It will not effect the structural integrity at all. Go right ahead and remove it.
