Pocket clip on a SwissTool Spirit

Is there any way to put a pocket clip on a SwissTool Spirit? They're not that big, and sometimes I don't want to carry it in it's sheath on my belt. (Once I did get though a metal detector and a pat down with it, I guess they thought it was a phone) Maybe a sheath that clips inside the pocket would work. Any suggestions?

There is a way - I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it, but someone took a clip made for the new leathermans and modified it. They drilled out one of the pins in the spirit, tapped it, and connected the clip via screw and loctite.

They left a small return at the top of the clip so it wouldn't spin.

If I come across the link I'll attach it.

Thanks for the kudos Toyz! :D

bricej, the biggest obstacle most folks have in doing this mod is drilling the hole in the clip. It looks easy, but its not. The hardened spring steel tends to chew up drill bits with a passion. Grab a carbide drill bit from the hardware store if you can. If not, try using a small carbide "burr" bit like those sold for dremel tools. Put the bit in a drill press at high rpm and feed it slowly through the pocket clip. Fortunately you don't have to go far.

The pivot pin in the Spirit on the other hand is dead soft. They are that way for a reason, so the heads can be peened after assembly. The soft metal makes it a breeze to drill and tap a hole into.

Good luck!
Bob:)

Fantastic!
A clip mod.
It's actions like this that makes SAK owner's shine.
Always thinking of solutions to create an even better thinking man's knife.
This is what ingenuity is all about.
Now just when all SAK's would come with standard clips directly from the factory, I wonder?

it's Bob! I was gonna put your thread up, but they beat me too it Uncle Bob! :D

best one I've seen for that, always a good job boss (whichdawg here).
just don't ask him how long he took to do it!

I just got a Spirit with a pocketclip attached. I bought it secondhand after a forumite welded a clip onto a Spirit. I don't remeber who did it, but it was a great. job.

Hey WD, quit telling them that stuff, you're gonna make me look bad! :D

Dang, that looks sexy. So basically you use a large diameter bit to drill off the top until it's flush. Then you drill a smaller hole in the pin and tap it. Thanks a lot for the help, now to find someone with a drill press. . . .

Maybe if we could get enough interest we could convince Victorinox to do a group buy of Spirits with pocket clips.

I would like to see a clip on the 3.0224L model (scissors and non-serr knife), which is not available in the States.

I had Bob do the clip mod for me on my Spirit and it is absolutely fantastic. Superb quality and totally functional. I now carry my Spirit all the time. Great job Bob!
