Pocket clip on an Alpha??

Has anyone ever installed a pocket clip on an alpha. I am looking for a smaller EDC, and like the looks of the Dorado model. However, I can't imagine carrying a knife without it being clipped to my pocket. I have gotten spoiled! I'd love to see pictures if you have them.

You may want to look at something like a 172 for a pocket clip. Seems to me an Alpha would be pretty fat in the pocket.

Every person, rodent, and fowl has an opinion...
I think the 172 is high $$$$. Well that is my excuse until I get one.

WAS using a Cold Steel Voyager Tanto Lone Ranger Hi-o Silver as my EDC ISH pocket clipper along with a 110 on the belt at the "user" tool.

Like the 298 ATS-34 I recently got from my barnyard buddy...it has a "similar" blade profile to the Alpha with a thinner overall body.

Wow, I'm typing all this personal opinion jazz and I have not answered your question. No.

Maybe kunegos is thinking of removing the rubber/wooden handle slabs before adding the clip...?

(Thanks to guy g for his photo.)

I haven't held a Alpha Dorado, yet, but, being a smaller Alpha model, maybe it wouldn't be too thick in the pocket...?

Hey GeoThorn...

Read the thread where on how the studs were removed. Can't find it now.
How did you do that again?

Thanks,
Goose.

Ur right about the 298.... Was just trying to digest the thought of a fat alpha in the pocket. But like Geo says, maybe the Dorado is thinner...

Several different clip knives to choose from...

Just haven't heard of anyone trying to put a clip on an alpha. Confuses my brain cells... what few I have left.

Goose,, watched a 172 go for around 120 shipped... Thought about it, but let it pass.. It wasn't NIB.
I paid 120 shipped for my last 172 nib.... Prices may be coming down some...

That's why I thanked guy g for his photo, because I haven't been as brave as him, yet, and removed the rubber handle slabs from my Alphas. ;) Here's the thread from whence I found the image in my above post.

Thanks for all your replies. I have a 172, and just can't bring myself to use it. I want to support our American made knives, but it seems like Buck isn't offering a whole lot of variety these days. I have a Tempest, but I am looking for something cheaper for everyday use. I'm thinking about an NXT, it has a slightly shorter blade and is pretty cheap. Are they made in the USA?

Buck has a new line of low ond folders out this year and the top of that line includes something called a nobility (or something like that) its made in China but is made with 440A steel, has a pocket clip with a plastic handle and the blade is about 2 5/8" long. I think it retails for about $36 and you can get it at most knife sites for about $27.

To quote guy g: "Unscrew the screws on the rubber pieces and you will have 2 tapped in studs left. I wouldnt take the knife apart. You will have to drill the studs out. They are too long to get out by pushing them in."

Then again, you could try emailing guy g: gdgibbons26@hotmail.com

Hi GeoThorn...
I read on the thread you provided (thanks) where Mr. Joe sanded 'em down.
(Shhh....I'm using that as an excuse for my finace to get me a Dremel for my birthday ;) )...so I was thinking a Dremel might work.
If I don't score a Dremel I'll drill 'em out :)

A Dremel would work well. Just be careful and wear some goggles and maybe gloves. I learned the hard way, if you have long hair, pull it back . I was buffing the bolsters of an old 110 and a little bit of hair made its way into the spinning wheel.

Didn't hurt too much, but the buzz was like a bee landing on my head. It was nearly enough to scare me into dropping the Dremel and knife. The knife I could deal with, but I envisioned chasing the Dremel around the house.

I wear some shooting goggles and an old pair of Hellstorm SOLAG gloves when Dremeling... and a hair bow

I've had a 172 for some weeks now and it rarely leaves my pocket. They're great users. Kunegos, get yours out and you'll be glad you did.

This is the best price I've ever found for them:

Back to the original question: after reading through some of the threads by chickentrax, adding a clip seems like child's play. Practice drilling and tapping some small threaded holes and when you've got it down, have at it.

Mike, Blue Sky, and The Rest of You Addicts...

WTH are you doing to me????
Just last nite I was thinking, "Goose...you HAVE to stop this! You could be spending this money on Jack Daniels!!! Stop the insanity!!!"
So, I told myself..."no e-bay for a month" and fell asleep with a clear concious looking forward to a new beginning when the sun comes up.
Ok...so far so good.
SO, WTF do I do this morning before the sun even comes up here on the left coast? Lusting after that e-bay flamed Mayo...but I resist...wondering about the flame stuff. I resist. Proudly, I can say it was ixsnay on the e-bay...but I order a 172 from the link that my pusher Blue Sky posted. How could I resist FREE USPS Priority SHIPPING. I am a whore.
I feel dirty.

...   ...

Please send that child over to my house, please... ;)

Like someone once said..."It's so easy, a 13-year-old could do it...the trouble is, there's never a 13-year-old around when you need one"...

Buckaholic, I feel bad about this, I really do. :p

Chickentrax, your modesty is refreshing but the jig's up, we've seen what you can do!
