The ONLY thing I don't/didn't like about my Junkyard Dog II (aside from the fact that it cut my thumb :D), is that the pocket clip is/was too wide (as well as too "pointy" on the sides). I solved THAT "problem" a couple days ago by removing the pocket clip and taking my Dremmel-mototool to it. I removed alot of the "fat" from the pocket-clip, as well as removing those darn points that are/were sticking out on each side of the clip.

It's now a much-better knife as the "points" of the what used-to-be too wide pocket-clip can no-longer dig into my hand when gripping the knife tightly. IMO, the whole knife now looks better.

Sorry, no pictures, but just imagine the JYD II with a nicely narrowed pocket-clip.:D.

It seems either people love or hate the clip on the JYD's. It came out that way because I wanted to be different, and I felt the lines of the clip matched the lines of the knife. I thought it added a little style on the outside of the pants as well. Maybe it is just my sense of proportion, but most of my folders have clips that are on the wide side compared to most. I think a wide handled knife looks unbalanced with a tiny little pen clip, but that’s just me.....

The good thing is you were able to tweak it to your liking!

Enjoy it!

+1 on the wide clip. I'm not really a fan of it, and I wish I had a tapping kit so I could put a low ride tip up clip on it. Then it would be perfect.

It's funny to be reading this --- I was thinking of doing the same for the last couple of days :)

For me, the clip is utility. I like 'em kinda small so they're not obtrusive for my work environment.

I like the idea behind the ZT301. Big o' massive folder. Itty, bitty unassuming, black clip.

Now, THAT is first-class when the designer of the knife responds to a comment about a modification to one of "his" knives!...Or more specifically to the pocket-clip...

And actually, the wide clip did add a little "style on the outside of the pants" (no other comment there :D), but it also drew a little too much "attention" that I'm "packin' a knife". As it is now with my modification, I think that it adds more "balance" and draws just a little less attention...I didn't make it REALLY narrow, but just enough to suit me, and it still follows the line of the knife very well...Especially the back-side of the knife. Also, as mentioned before, there are now no "points" to bother my hand/grip with.

I did the same thing to mine awhile back. Actually I asked Kershaw for a new clip that I could modify. I also used my 1" HF belt sander, not my dremel.

that looks really good. The clip is honestly one of the things that has turned me awy from buying one. I am handy with a dremel but never modified and knifes and never really had any inclination to. This might change that.

Yup, that's exactly how mine looks now, 'cept there is just a LITTLE bit more curve left on the back end of mine, and I didn't go QUITE as close to the 3 holes...I left about as much steel from the edge of the bottom hole as the distance between each hole.

...Now, if I can figure out how to move the pocket-clip to both the other side, and the other end of the scales (tip-up, left-hand carry)...Then my JYD II would be TOTALLY PERFECT.:)...(I can't drill & tap it myself :(). When I had the pocket-clip off for the modification, I placed it there (other side, other end) to see how it would look, and although I'd have to trim-off the "points" near the screws for it to fit on the other end, that's not a problem.

The original clip is nice indeed, IMHO - much better looking than the modified. But it is not convenient to use. Tim, can you design new better clip for the Ti SG2 JYDII?

Count me among those who really like that big, stylish clip, especially the way it seems to fill the "hollow" in my hand in a saber or hammer grip. I also think it looks great, proportioned very nicely for the knife.

Better for tweaking, too ... a lot easier to make a big clip smaller than it is to make a small clip bigger. :)

Something I want to add (or clarify) to my previous statement. I don't feel there is anything "wrong" with the current clip: it feels good when gripped, it looks elegant and flows with the lines of the blade and it *does* retain the knife in your pocket.

My commentary is only directed that I like a small, unobtrusive, lo-ride clip for work carry. For me, as a TV engineer, it may be in-studio, the general office environment, sports arenas, etc. While there is a certain tolerance to our carrying any manner of electronic or hand tools, a certain amount of "don't call undue attention to the big o' people killing weapon"...[ Er... Tool, folks!] in my pocket.

Granted, the "unobtrusiveness" is all gone when something like a striped ZT smacks open BUT I try to use some judgement of who/when I use certain tools around.

Again - great design on both the JYD andf JYDII!

A friend of mine really likes his JYD2, but he likes to carry tip up, so I transplanted a clip from one of his older knife for him. I am no STR, but he was happy with the result.

I do have to say that while I like the look of the JYD pocket clip when I handled the smaller JYD (which is the size I would buy) the corners on the clip dug into my hand in a way I didn't like which is what has kept me away from the JYD although I will probably be forced to get one in the end what with it being such a darn good looking knife.

I think even STR would like that one.
