Pocket Clip Paranoia

You can always modify your clips to be less noticable.I did this clip by heating it up over my stove (gas) and quenching it in water.

or with a little less heat you get something like this

I'll have to keep that I mind. I might go the Krylon route however.

I spy with my little eye an Enlan El-02 :)

Dang, talk about coincidence. I just ordered an EL-02B today :p. I just have to wait the month or so for it to arrive.

They're nice - I actually ordered an EL-02 initially, then, much later, bought an EL-02B and the pivot tool. I wanted a micarta-handled knife with a stonewash blade. It looks like a $90 knife, but it cost me 35 in total for both knives and the tool. Frikkin' legit.

The "axis" lock will cut the hell out of your fingertips, though.

+1 on the 3M tread tape on the clip. Improves drawing ability (my main concern) and makes it less noticeable (a bonus).

In general, most people are completely unaware of their surroundings, and likely as not don't see you at all, much less how shiny your clip is.

I think most people that would freak out because someone is carrying a pocket knife probably don't even know pocket knives have clips. I've never noticed anyone looking at my pocket clip, even when it's a satin finish.

This. ^^

I do not worry about it a bit here. I think most people are clueless and do not notice. I was standing in line in a fast food restaurant a few years ago and noticed the guy behind me, dressed in jeans and a casual shirt, had a holster and Glock on his belt. I don't think anybody noticed but me. I didn't see a badge but when we left I saw a Constable's car parked in the parking lot.

In my experience the only people who even really notice pocket clips are other knife people.

At ISU this shouldn't be an issue. When I got a knife I did it an no one said anything. Almost every farm boi there carries a cheapo knife clipped to the pocket.

Personally I don't care if I offend people. You don't think twice when you see a carpenter with a hammer on his side or a Cop with a gun. They're all just people all capable of the same things if they want. I like to carry my Minimalist bowie around my neck outside my shirt. Never been asked about it though. If anyone ever asks, I say its a utility knife. I use it to cut things when I need to. If they say it bothers them then I'll be respectful and tuck it in my shirt. I've never had a problem though. I live in a more urban area with a lot of older people that carry a knife and younger people that don't know what one looks like. So I don't foresee a problem anytime soon.

Let's see, OP carries three knives and wonders if he's paranoid. Hang with LEO's off duty, you'll get a sense of paranoid. :)

Carry in the social group you are with is a matter of whether you want to conform, or don't give a rat's a** about what they think. It's Valentine's, I'm in dress slacks and a sweater with a clipped Boker Magnum on one side, and a clipped Microstream in the other, neither of which fell out while at the dentist, I might add. It's my EDC duo, I might add a Minimalist tanto on a neck chain, too.

Three knives isn't much paranoid, when you add a third pistol you might consider it, but don't let that stop you.

Not an issue with a loose T shirt, scrubs, or jacket, and as long as I know I'm (within the Law) I could care less if somebody has a negative reaction to my clip. It's on my person, not waved out in the open.

I have never worried about the knife-clip showing. I just don't care, and I don't think anyone else notices these things. I am much more aware that the butt of my Glock stays out of sight.

Hey man, I might be going there next year! How do you like it?

It's a good school. I've taken alot of good classes and many of the professors where interesting and helpful people. The Business program is supposed to be pretty good too. If you don't like going to partys on weekend, find a hobby.

You'd be suprised. I've seen people get visibly concerned when I'm using a CRKT Minimalist to open a package. It's my most sheeple freindly blade too.

My experience has been that ANY fixed blade is less people friendly than a folder, even a big tactical folder can seem less scary to many. And the CRKT styling is actually pretty agressive looking compared with more traditional styles. Handy little knife tho, for sure.

Eh, a friend of a friend of mine said he was afraid of my spyderco tenacious. The tenacious was being used to serve birthday cake. How the f*** can you be afraid of a frosting covered knife?

If they were afraid of my tenacious, I'd tell them "You should see what's in my other pocket then ;)" But then again I'm just an a**hole. Typically though I have my quark pro clipped to my left pocket. The right side is for knives, left is for gear. With the exception of a small fixed in the back left pocket wallet goes on the right. At times I will have upwards of 5 knives just because I can. :D My friends think I'm weird, but I'm always prepared for most things when they're not.
