I am thinking about taking the pocket clip off of my Para-Military and carrying it in my pocket. Is this an alright idea? It seem's to me that pretty much everyone here seem's to use the pocket clip that comes on there knife. It seem's to me that if I take it off and carry it in my pocket I would no longer have to worry about the clip getting caught up on thing's and damaging either it or worse my knifes scale. Do any of the rest of you carry clipless?

Do whatever works best for you. If you find that you don't like going clipless it is always easy enough to replace the clip.

I generally like pocket clips on my knives, but then again I mostly wear jeans so it doesn't feel out of place. When I do get a bit more dressed up for whatever reason I go with one of my clipless folders often enough.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

I tend to use the clips because it keeps the knife where I can find it without too much effort. Also, the knife doesn't scratch or get scratched by the other stuff in my pocket. I have gone clip-less, no biggy, just different.

"I have gone clip-less".....kinda sounds funny, huh? :p

Pocket clips = evil!

Needless to say that I remove the clips from my knives almost immediately! :D

Did I say that pocket clips are evil?

I EDC my knife IWB, therefore a clip is indispensable. But I see no reason why you shouldn't remove the clip of your Paramillie if it's more comfortable for you.

I like clips on my knives, but like another member said I switch to something with out a clip when I dress up. Clips keep the knife where it is easy to access and deploy. When I carry clipless I tend to have dress pants with a small pocet inside the big pocket for my (dress knives) This keeps the knife from laying down in my pocket and keeps it from contact with other thinks in my pockets. I like pocket-clips so much that it's difficult for me to carry a knife that does'nt have one.

Thank you Sal Glesser and Spyderco!

Good luck,
Allen.

You DO know that removing that clip is akin to removing the tags from a mattress!  :D

I carry knives 5" or less without a clip loose in my pocket all of the time, today included. Usually in one of my front pockets. Almost anyone who commits to 1-2 weeks of solid pocket carry will quickly get used to it.

For tactical knives I prefer to have a clip.

The one concern I have would be that it's a liner lock that was designed for clip carry.

Tip down: gravity + detent = blade held closed
Tip up: seam of you pocket + detent = blade held closed
No clip: Detent only

I would make sure the detent is nice and strong and maybe tighten the pivot a touch to make sure it does not swing open in your pocket without your permission.

Taking the clip off is certainly "an alright idea" if that makes the situation better for you, regardless of what other people may do. Personally, I never liked clips until I got a knife with one. I always intended to remove it, but it was just so darned handy, I never did.

Pocket clips are great IMO. They keep the knives you carry from getting all scratched up by your keys and whatever else is down there and they help keep pocket lint from collecting so bad also.

I have a Para-Military and my guess is you'll mount the clip back on shortly after removing it. The Para-Mil has a bit too big of a 'foot print' for deep pocket carry if you ask me. I can't imagine carrying mine that way.

Uh-oh! That knock on the door is the clip removal police.

Actually I think you heard me throwing the clip of my newest knife away in disgust! :D

BTW: Did I say that I didn't like pocket clips?

They are evil.

Actually I've taken it off now and am carrying it in my pocket inside of a little soft Benchmade pouch that came with another knife. I figure this will keep it from printing to badly and also protect it from keys, change etc.

I would agree with emann - some folders that have a large footprint would get annoying loose in a pocket. My Delica is fine loose, but my BM Mini-Ambush which is about the same size, by heavier, is quite uncomfortable loose. I've found that my Heat and Endura are also a bit big to be sitting loose, even in cargo pants. Other ones I tend to clip are the anodized ones, they can get pretty scratched up. I happened to be EDC'ing my Xikar Explorer yesterday, and it's one I normally clip, but I slipped into my change pocket for about half a day and it got nicked a bit by the change - I guess it has more "character" now :D I also tend to carry my larger folders in my back pocket clipped on occasision when I don't have cargo pants. Clipless blades like my 110/112's are on a belt sheath - I personally don't think I would carry those loose in a pants pocket - just a bit too heavy for me. Coat pocket - sure.
