Pocket eaters

WORST POCKET EATER GOES TO ---- MOD CQD,

come on grip tape on the back of the handle, it isn't "like" sandpaper, IT IS:mad:

I have an M16 by crkt, and te thumbstud drove me up a wall. not only did it cost me 2 pair of levi strausses, but ripped up the skin on my thigh. I also have a nice callus on my thumb. After a while I put it under a grinder and removed the texture. Then I took it to a friend who owns a CNC shop and had him put a series of circles on it to make it look like a target:):D Then I started to have problems with the flipper on the back, so i bought a benchmade bali-song sheath for 10 bucks and wear it horizontally on my belt. When I wear a loose **** it is unnoticeable...plus I removed the clip so i can open it faster than I can with a waved emerson.

Regards,

Steve C.

the only knife i have had that really will tear up your pockets is a buck/strider 880, and its not that bad, but the G10 is like sandpaper, mine anyway, but it does have a good 'grip'

havent had any probs w/spyderco/BM/MT/EKI/REKAT/DRD/Crawford/CRKT/GT/etc

i used to carry a 710 a lot, and carry my D2 AFCK axis all the time w/no probs in that regard.....

For some reason it's always benchmade knife clips that give me the most grief. I can't remember one benchmade knife of mine that hasn't required a clip loosening/adjustment or just plain chucking the clip out.

I had to remove the sandpaper/griptape. Soaked it with Lighter Fluid and pulled it off and the rubbed the adhesive residue away.
Much better now.

How did you guys remove the clip from your Buck Striders? I can't find a torx bit small enough to fit the screws ANYWHERE!

Why the heck couldn't they just use a philips head screw?!?!

Find out what size the screws are. Call Buck if necessary...

My local hardware store has them all the way down to T4, German made drivers. five bucks... lemme know if you need one..

Hey MelancholyMutt,

Thank you very much for the info! I am going to check 1 or 2 more places locally, but if I can't find the right size I will be contacting you soon.

So far I have found nothing lower than a Torx size 10. It has been driving me nuts that I haven't been able to find anything that will fit correctly. Thanks a lot bro!

i bought a a set of small drivers (regular/phillips/torx) about 12 or so in all , was $19.95, and the smallets torx fits the clip screws on the buck/strider, i promise

Only knife that I ever had a problem with was my first Benchmade Crawford Leopard with clear anodized aluminum scales. The tight clip and rough /sandpaper aluminum scales just destroyed the top of the pockets on my Levis.

Worst pocket eaters I've seen have to be the CRKT M-18 series. Not the clips, but the damned thumbstuds. Even after filing them for 10-15 minutes each side, they still ate holes in my watch pockets.

Based on the way they felt in my hands--one reason why I didn't buy either of them--the Chinook and the Buck Strider would be tied for 2nd place.

The worst folder I have for pocket wear is the Buck/Strider 880. The tight pocket clip, and rough textured G10 really chew up my jeans.

Repeated use of the Wave feature on my Commander has also made a nice rip in a pair of jeans, but other than that the Emerson's don't hurt you pockets.

I don't tend to use the clips. I just put them in the empty strong hand pocket of my pants. I don't like people knowing I have a knife, and I see no real speed disadvantage carrying that way. They rarely do any pocket damage that way either, though rough g-10 can slowly chafe a pocket. I do not use a knife with the Emerson wave feature of course.

Just wanted to ask how you made out ordering from Couteaux-Courty.
How long it took and what company they use to ship?
Thanks

I'm afraid i don't know what company they use to ship, i still haven't got my order  , i've sent them a couple of e-mails and they replied on the 23rd to tell me that they would have to wait 10 days to ship my order because the model i wanted wasn't in stock, i'm still waiting, dropped them another e-mail yesterday to try and find out the current situation. I'll post again when they reply. Have you placed an order with them yourself?

I have been carrying the prototypes of these for about a month . . . I have really enjoyed them!

I WANT ONE OF THOSE! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT? A question for the Irishman. My grandfather is in West Mayo in the Republic and says that he carries a folding lock blade on his farm even though it is probably not legal. I'm curious as to know how your knife laws are in Ulster. I know that pistols are still legal (And will stay that way God Willing), but how are your knife laws. Thanks for the help.

Actually, (very unfortunately) pistols are illegal here, the only way you can own one legally is if;
1. you keep it locked in a safe in a gun club.
2. you are police/military .
3. you are ex police/military and have received death threats.
Rifles and Shotguns are a different matter, they require a license. The majority of firearms over here are owned by terrorists.
As for knives, i believe that the law is a little sketchy, basically it's ok to have a knife on your property or if you need it for your work, otherwise they have a problem with any folding knife if it locks or has a 3+ inch blade. If a law is blatantly ignorant i think the logical thing to do is ignore it, i honestly don't think any police officer will have a problem with someone using a reasonable sized knife in a responsible manner.
