***update*** Okay folks, the little knife in this thread is sold, but there has been a lot of interest in the rest of the batch I started--- So I started a list of names. I currently have 10 other blades that are textured, profiled, and rough ground. Half are flat ground, half are hollow ground. If you were wanting to be on the list, please let me know, along with which type of grind you prefer. I'm going to be finishing these up soon. Thanks guys!!! :)

I have knives like this laying around the shop that I use all the time. Back when I worked on the maintenance crew at the paper mill, I carried one in the side pocket of my Carhartt jeans.

Ground from ~1/8" thick, 1084 barstock that I smack with a texturing die made from heavily rusted/pitted steel blocks (it's basically like mill scale, just a little more texture)
Hardened to 60/61 Rc
This one was hollow ground on a 10" wheel and left with a Gator belt finish... it is VERY thin at the edge

6" OAL
~ 2-1/2" blade X ~ 7/8" wide at widest point

I radius all around the handle so it's comfy to hold, and buff the perimeter to a mirror polish.

The sheath is a small pouch made from thin veg tanned cow hide on the outside and pig skin on the inside. There is a rare earth magnet in-between the layers that holds the blade in place.

I sat on the couch the other night with Angi for about an hour and asked her if she noticed anything odd--- she had no idea I had this in my side pocket the whole time and I damn near forgot myself.

It's as simple as a little knife could be, but IMHO, it's pretty darn handy. :) I should point out that this is a very simple utilitarian tool, and while I wanted it to be clean, the focus was on the shape, heat-treat, and thin edge--- so I did not spend hours and hours trying to make it as close to perfect as possible like I do on my collector grade knives. :)

$105 shipped in the U.S. This one is sold

Thanks for looking :)

This is how I always carry mine- You can put it in any pocket I suppose. It does NOT have a belt loop or clip, so it's gotta go in a pocket or a pack.

By the way, Heck of a great looking little knife. I have been looking for a pocket fixed blade knife - this looks about as perfect as perfect could be.

Nick,

I will take one of the other 10.

Just slip it in the box with my hunter.

I keep forgetting to tell you which wood to put on the hunter.

So I would like the wood you said was the nicest.

Best,

Todd

Nick great looking functional blade, I wear carharts 5 days a weeks as a remodel contractor and could really see a use for one of these, put me on the list if you make more. Thanks Martin

I will take this one whether you take PP or MO if it is not already spoken for. And if it is already spoken for, please put me down for two  of the others! Just let me know if I have any coming my way and I can arrange payment with you! Any way you cut it, I'd like two please!

Hey Steve- I love money orders. ;) :D THANK YOU!!! :)

Todd- whewe! I was worried I had pissed 'ya off or something. :foot: That blade is out there feeling naked without a handle ;) :D I can definitely throw one of these in the box with the hunter. :D

Martin- I'm thinking that making more of these would be a really good idea. Thank you! When I was in high school, it seemed like there was only a couple hardcore redneck kids that wore Carhartt anything.... then after college when I went to work on a RR track crewI learned real quick that Carhartts make regular jeans look like a joke... especially the double front washed duck dungarees. So I wear them everyday in the shop now (unless it's shorts weather ;) ) and I've got my little knife in that side pocket all the time. :)

Thanks guys!!! :)

edited to add: Thanks Chris! This one has Steve's name on it, but I'll put you other fellas down on the list. :)

Nick - thanks so much. I will get a MO headed your way as soon as I get your mailing address. I really appreciate it!

Hi Nick,
If you are making more, I would be very happy to be on the list also. What a great little blade. USPS MO or PayPal, just let me know. Thank you. Mike

I want one / need one / I'll take one. USPS Money order can be sent upon confirmation.

In a way this is why I didn't say what I wanted in a knife when you asked. It's best to let you do what you know best and then I can reap the rewards of your skill.

Nice Thanks Mitch.

Hi guys :) I updated the original post. The knife in this thread is sold, but there has definitely been a strong enough interest for me to finish off the batch of 10 that I started.

There are 5 that are flat ground, and 5 that are hollow ground on a 10" wheel. Please just let me know which you prefer. If everybody wants one or the other, then I can always just make more.

Thank you guys! :)

Nick,

Please add me to your list for one of these little guys - hollow ground on mine.

Hi Nick,
I'm sure either grind would be great but I'll try the hollow grind if available.
Thank you.
Mike

Nick,

I sent you an email with my wood choice on the hunter, and preference on the grind for this one..

Thanks Nick!

oooh Flatground with a convex edge is the ticket. Even I can sharpen one of those and I have the scars to prove it.

Just thinking out loud- Burt Foster does the Dark Side in a laminate. Could you do something like these with a hamon :)

hi Mr Wheeler,

will you ship one of your pocket blades to France please ?

if so can you shoot me a PM with the shipped price for a flat ground one ? assuming you ground those as thin as the hollow. i understand the grinds are different, just want to be sure it's as thin as possible too ... love pocket scalpels :D

best, Louis.

btw, your inbox is full.

Louis- That's kind of funny. We just got back from a meeting at the high school with Erin's French teacher. We are hosting a French student this summer in our home. :) I have never sent a package to France, but I don't see why I wouldn't be able to. :)

Mitch- It's something I've thought about- but I'm not sure how to make it work--- since the idea is a simple, affordable, using blade. Clay hardening and polishing is kind of the polar oppostie of those. Maybe I could come up with a less intense finish that would work... ? :)

Thank you guys :)
