Pocket Flasks

I'd like to acquire a nice, small SS pocket flask to hold a small amount of whiskey or brandy. I have a heart disease and a small shot usually helps me to overcome the chest pain (better and tastier than Nitro ;) ).

Any recommendations on brand and design?

Or, if that's a little steep for you, look up Smokey Mountain Knife Works site. They sell flasks for much less, along with Zippo lighters etc. Knives too I think.;)

Thank you both. I like this one:

It's a shame that this one does not feature the nice leather cover like the other model.

This cutie came with a bottle of Jameson, I think I've seen one from Jim Beam, a large liquor store may have something like this, along with others in various sizes and shapes.

Edited to comment, this one is 3" in diameter and holds about 3 1/2 ounces.

I prefer what is called a "boot flask." It's very thin, but very tall. Traditionally, a cowboy would slip one into his boot, so height was no problem but thinness was necessary. I find that my 5 oz. boot flask fits perfectly in the breast pocket of a man's suit jacket and, because it's thin, it doesn't print.

Dalvey makes several sizes of the round flasks. At one time, Cabela's carried them. I've got a small one that I've had for a number of years. They did offer one that incorporated a collapsable cup.

A few drams never hurt anyone.....

I've seen those at tobacco shops, sometimes in a paired match with a cigar holder, never tried them but seems like a great idea.

You're right Chuck. A boot flask looks very useful. Found a nice pic:

Thanks for the heads up!

I was at a tobacco shop earlier today and they had a bunch, including those thin tall boot flasks, the ones with matching cigar holder are actually cylindrical and the same length as the holder, they also had a walking cane that you unscrew the handle and there's a glass flask inside.

I have several. It's sort of a minor collection for me.

The boot flask that I use most often is one - purchased at the local liquor store for less than $20. It's stainless steel and has a checkered pattern engraved into it. I like it because the cap is held to the flask so you can't loose it.

I recommend buying one with a hinged or chained cap, since the caps can be small and fiddly. Also get one of those tiny funnels, if you don't already have one. Some flasks are sold with a complimentary one.
I've favoured a leather wrapped flask, since the plain polished ones gather finger prints real easily.

A brushed finish is better in this regard too, compared to a polished one. I added a sticker from a first aid kit as a personal touch :)

I have a pewter flask that I bought off of Ebay. It was made by Alchemy Pewter (an English company) and it has the Camel cigarette brand Camel embossed on it, with the name "Camel" underneath. I think it was a promotional item for the Camel brand (when I smoke, I smoke Camels). It holds about 6 ounces of Jack Daniels' heart medicine :D. I paid about $14 for it. It doesn't seem to impart any metallic taste to the whiskey, but usually the whiskey doesn't stay in the flask very long...

It doesn't have a chain or hinged cap, so you do have to watch and not misplace the cap. A small funnel is very recommended, otherwise it takes about 8 ounces to fill it up with 6 ounces...

One thing I have noticed. If the flask is about 2/3 or less full, it makes a low but audible sloshing noise when I carry it a suit/blazer inside pocket.

I've been thinking about getting a flask. Would it matter what it's made of ...pewter or stainless or titanium...in terms of taste or leak proofness (if that's even a word)?

You know, no kidding here. This is what the world needs. A true QUALITY pocket flask. One that has all the little details right. A funnell/cap combo that's somehow lashed onboard to avoid loss. Leather wrapping for that classy "statement". Some kind of inert metal alloy to avoid taste contamination. Decent capacity without "mongo" printing size in the pocket. Optional "shoulder holster" rig for under-the-shirt ingonito wear. And of course, a small oval on the front for engraving (fake initials of course, JB is short for James Bond doncha know). ;)

Of course, it would have to be citrus-resistant as I'd only carry fruit juice in mine. :p

Seems Dalvey is the recognized leader in quality flasks. I've been thinking I need one for my metal detecting trips out in the fields of England, but I think I'd like to get one before I go, just in case I need it ;)

The stainless flasks I've seen in the local liquor stores seem to be of dubious quality, same for the online sites that I've found so far. :(

While Pewter is common, I think I'd prefer stainless.

My grandfather (who died in 1967) used to have a leather covered glass flask with curved shape for pocket carry, probably an 8 ouncer, if I remember correctly it had a cork and over that a metal screw-on cap that could be used as a small shot glass. I had it around somewhere but have been looking for it and cannot find it, I remember the leather was in bad shape and likely also the cork.
