I am a diehard Buck 112 belt carry guy. I wear one every day to work. When I dont have a belt on or weekends etc I carry a pocket knife or an old Gerber Torch(USA made). Its a bit small so I am going to order a Rat 1 as every one seems to like them. Question is there any other pocket clip folder that I should consider or just get the Rat 1 and be done? Thanks

My hand could never get used to the Rat 1.
I like:
Spyderco Tenacious
Kershaw Cryo II
CRKT Shenanigan
Buck Vantage
There are many others from these brands, but I think they are fair comparisons

Budget around 50 US dollars
Blade size 3.5 to 4 inches
Pretty much any steel in the price range is ok. I like my bucks 420 hc but looking forward to something different to try

I started a thread looking for the exact same thing a while ago. I've been carrying a 110 more than the 112 lately, but I was looking for something to compliment my Bucks. I have been going with a mini grip and I love it as a secondary blade. And for something on the cheaper side I've carried the g-10 cryo. I like that one as well, but prefer stuff made in the USA. My Buck is my primary blade, but I like to have something I can open with one hand as well. I put those thumbstuds (they look awful, but they work) on the 112 and 110 and now that's my one handed opener so I've been grabbing another traditional as my back up, usually a Case texas jack or medium stockman.

JD I always loved my bucks and have no issues with weight or size just as long as I belt carry. As soon as you take the belt sheath out of the equation then they become a whole different animal

You and me both. I like having a sheath more than anything else. If it's not a 110 or 112, I carry a Case trapper or large stockman in a belt sheath. The mini grip was a little more than you want to spend, but I'm telling you, I love carrying one with my Bucks....

Rat 1 is also a large folder -- 5" closed vs. 5.25" for the Spyderco Resilience. The Rat 2 is an inch shorter at 4" closed.

I second the idea of a Benchmade Mini-Griptillian, though it's beyond your $50 price target. I recently caved and got one after finding a good deal on a lightly used one on the forums, and I've been very pleased.

Buck Vantage is another good choice. Comes in a large and small size. I have the large and it's 4-3/8" closed. It's what I usually carry when I'm not carrying the Mini-Grip.

If you know how to use a sewing machine or know somebody who does, run a seam 1/2 way up your right rear pocket about 1.25 inches from the outer edge of the pocket. This makes carrying a knife like the 110 very easy. Well, less onerous. Buck should really make a thinner, barehead version of the 110/112. Not as thin as the 500. More like Sodbuster thin, around 13mm, down from the normal 15mm.

If you need a pocket clip, take a look at the Bucklite Max and Spitfire folders. They are both about the same size as the 112.

If you can live with front pocket carry, the 500 Duke is a beautiful knife. I thing the 112 is the nicest looking Buck but carry the 500 or 110 more.

I would either recommend the rat 1 (my favorite budget folder) or go just over budget and get a spyderco endura or delica (as someone has already mentioned)

You should also get a Buck 482. It's lightweight , American made, it's around the same size as the 112 ( someone here actually put a 482 blade into a 112 handle ) , and only costs 20$.
It also has a nice deep carry pocket clip and lanyard hole. For 20$ as a buck fan you should at least try it out.

Not a bad choice. I have one and I almost think it's too light. I don't know if that's a complaint or not. Really good size though....
