Interested in one of the above. Would like opinions on comparisons between price, carry-ability, defensive value, etc. What does everybody think???
Paul

Definately apples and oranges. The Pocket Hobbit has excellent defensive value. The Commander Is more versatile than the Pocket Hobbit and easier to carry. The PH doesnt have a clip. It has to be carried in a sheath. Which is fine if you prefer sheaths over clips. If I were going purely defensive I would get the PH. If I wanted an all around folder that would also be a good defensive tool I would go for the Commander.

I've got both of them and have to give a slight "edge" to the Commander. Much more ergonomic handle shape and better asthetic quality (better finish, etc.). My Commander is also the smoothest opening folder I own--even better than my Sebenza. If you carry a knife clipped to your pants pocket, you will want to get a Commander. That Wave feature is truly awesome. Much faster than an automatic. Then again, nothing compares to the awesome looks of the Pocket Hobbit. It just looks so evil! And it is very hefty and solid feeling--feels indestructable.

You can get Commanders for $150 and Pocket Hobbits for under $130.

Now a Commander with the Rolling Lock would be awesome (even though mine has an excellent liner lock).

I'd say the better comparison would be the Carnivour to the Commander.
I'd have the Carnivour over the Commander due to the rolling lock and super-friendly grip.
The quick opening quality of the Commander is not disputed, it's just that I require a knife for more urban use.
Both are icons in their own right.
The Hobbit is in a class by itself.

Definately agree with Bill. The Carnivour and Commander are more in the same class. Between those I would definately take the Carnivour. The grip is incredible and it has the rolling lock. It is definately superior to the Commander.

I agree. The Hobbit is in a class by itself.
I sometimes carry the folding hobbit. I always(except when Flying) carry my Carnivore.

Cheers,

Ptpalpha,
First off I would like to say that in my opinion both are awsome creatures. I think that both are just a little burly for casual civilian carry. But hey, no big deal.
I firmly believe that the one that is easiest to carry is the one will be at hand in time of need. For me that happens to be the Commander. A Commander in hand beats a PH at home.
Beyond that I think about deployment. Which is easiest to access and bring to a ready position? Once again for me its the Commander. The knife is made to be accessed. Even without the wave that sucker opens with ease. The PH has those teeth on its spine. I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to clear my fingers of these when drawing and opening quickly. I know many PH fans will "rain" on this message but I still think that of the two the Commander is more user friendly.

Okay, I'm leaning hard toward the Carnivour. Questions: does it have a pocket clip, if not, howabout kydex sheath options? Is to too bulky for comfortable (and non-eye catching) pocket carry?

The Carnivour has a clip. It is not too bulky for comfortable pocket carry. It is about the same size as the commander. Right now REKAT doesn't offer a sheath but Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths offers a kydex sheath for it. I don't have the sheath Mike Offers but someone on the forums got one. if you will do a search on this forum you'll probably find it. I know you will love the Carnivour. Now the question is stonewashed or black-t?
here is the thread about the sheath's for the Carnivour: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000157.html
and here is an excellent review of the Carnivour: http://bbs.ipass.net/~stringb/Carnivour.html

In case you haven't noticed I really like this knife!

ptpalpha,
I hope that I did'nt make it sound like the Commander was too big to carry reasonably. The carnivore should be roughly the same size and bulk as the Commander. You will not go wrong with either. The Rolling Lock is a great feature and might actually tip the scales for me if I were deciding. But then again If I went with the Carnivore I would probably have to get a Commander anyway...Just to have it!
