This is the first time I have ever used a forum on the internet. I hope I do not violate any protocol. Here goes. I am considering the purchase or the Round Eye Knife and Tool "Pocket Hobbit." Has anyone had any experience with the knife's strength, durability, quality, workmanship, etc?

Willie Boy,

Welcome ( and I can guarantee that while this might be your first post,it will not be your last ).

I have had several Pocket Hobbit's.

If you are looking for an all around tough A**,do everything you ask from it folder, this is it.

This is one sturdy knife. It is big enough for heavy duty use, both with the knife edge and with the serrated part(very sharp).

The lock up is great ( Bob Taylor said it will hold up to 1000lbs ). You can flick the blade out with your wrist and hear it lock up with authority.

And while the blade finish is not perfect(some grinding marks),it makes no difference because it is not intended to win a beauty contest(obviously).

The only thing that I can say bad about it is that they do not come from the factory with an extremely sharp edge(no big deal,
just do it yourself).

All in all, if you want a big,bad folder that you can rely on, you can't go wrong. Just make sure you shop around and get the best price.

Hope this helps.

Thnaks for replying Jailhack. As to the blade finish, I have quite a few grind marks on me too. No beauty contest winner here. Do you have any suggestions as to where these pieces can be obtained, other than REKAT?

Thanks again,

Willie Boy

I own some fix blade Hobbits and love them. I was always curious about the pocket version but figured it wasn't worth it since I had the fixed blade version. But I am interested. Do you guys know where I can get one for less than $100? New or used.

Welcome Willie Boy,

I think a good portion of us here on BladeForums have a few grind marks, so you're not alone.

REKAT makes a great line of products. Be sure to look at the new Carnivour and Sifu. They look like winners. I did some internet searches on REKAT a couple of years ago. Most places weren't carrying them then. I think it's a different story now. Bob Taylor on the REKAT forum should be able to fill you in.

Titan,

Thank you for the link. The many comments of others with Hobbit experience will surely help me with my decision. The blade forum is really great. I just stumbled upon it. I had no idea so many people shared my interest.

Thanks again,

Willie Boy

Mr. Irons,

Thank you for replying to my inquiry. I spoke with someone at REKAT this morning.

Thanks again,

Willie Boy
