Pocket Hole Prevention Ideas

As I'm about to do my Sunday pocket repairs on jeans, I'd like to know how others are dealing with this.

I've been carrying Traditional Pocket Knives daily for decades, with pockets carrying keys, coins, knives, pens without producing holes, the front of the jeans would in time fade in the shape of my Stockman, etc. and would eventually wear a hole in the outer jean material.

In the last 10+ years the inner pockets will get holes in them, with the knife moving position with each repair, the outer never shows fade or wear and the pockets wear out before the rest of the pants are worn out.

Peanuts have put holes in my watch pockets, back pocket carry of hunters hasn't been a problem as of yet.

Some of this I can blame on cheaper materials used to make jeans today and also the sharp portion of the closed blade found on GEC and Queens knives.
Although I just had a Case full sized Trapper make a hole from daily carry even though it has a much smoother finish than the other 2 brands.

In the last week I started carrying my Queen Mountain Man with a cheap Nylon belt Sheath, in my pocket which was Flat by design.
Just trying things out.

Any ideas shared will be appreciated.

Thanks

The best solution for me, to date, has been a dangler pouch. There's many types and sizes out there. Here's what I use. @Horsewright made two of these. The other was made by a French maker.
They keep my knives nice, keep my pants pockets from wearing, protect my smartphone, and although it takes an extra few extra seconds to deploy, you get used to it.
Loop around your belt or belt loop, and drop in your pocket.
Keeps em vertical too, like JohnDF JohnDF mentioned.

For front pocket carry, I've sewn a simple seam in the pocket, creating an interior division that keeps a knife in a vertical position closest to the fly. The knife remains vertical and it is easy to access. I've done a "one size fits all" but if there is great variation in length and girth of knives to be carried this would be less that ideal.

I carry a honkin' big Henckels Stockman, and a bunch of other junk. I've never has problems with holes in my pockets. Don't know why.

Vertical seam sewn in RFP works for me. Also, I have been known to break sharp edges and corners with a little light sanding.

I just patch the hole when it gets too big. I use Geocell 2300 roofing sealant to glue the patch. It takes about three minutes to install the patch and the glue lasts longer than the fabric. In fact, it may be time to do some mending.

My mom used to iron-on patches over the knees of my Toughskin Jeans... remember those days?
Maybe you could iron-on some patches on the inside as a precaution against unusual wear and tear. ;) :D

The iron on patches sounds like a good idea. I have a couple pairs of the heavy duty Ridge cargo pants for hard use, so my jeans don't get the beating they used to.

I have repaired a few pants pockets with either the iron on patches or with fabric glue and a chunk of fabric from donor pants.

So far the fabric glue seems to stay in place longer.
