Pocket Hole Prevention Ideas

The local biker lady repairs all jacket pockets with old blue jean denim. Takes the old pocket off and makes a new one. My replacement pockets have held up over 15 years. They do not get daily use but will prolly outlive me. The pocket slip will help with the knives. I also culled my daily keys down to my car and house key.

I've always found this the weirdest topic. I have jeans(Wrangler)I've worn at work and play with tools bigger and rougher than any pocket knife in the pockets all day every day for years and never had a hole... let alone ever from a smooth little knife.

Two ideas come to mind;
Take a file to any rough edges on the knives that do it, break the corners.

Get better pants.

I've been wearing pants with heavier cotton pockets. (Or at least better jeans, judged by the heft of their pockets.) Slips are too much trouble for me and bulky as well. Personal preference.

I had a Victorinox Pioneer in my pockets for many years and I got that impression and eventual hole in my denims from daily carry. Then a few years back I switched to a modern knife with a clip for the a few years. Then I had the frayed edges of the pocket from where the clip rubbed.

I guess it was a pick your poison type wear and tear issue on pants pockets.

The buckaroo sheath is something I should investigate more for sure. I had a couple of sheathes that came with some Northwood knife purchases. They were very stiff leather you squeezed to open and they took up a lot of pocket real estate. Very disappointing. I was gifted a GEC soft leather sheath with a GEC purchase from one of the retailers. That one I use from time to time but it only suits the smaller GECs. A GEC 54 or a large trapper is anohter thing.

I wear a hole in the same place from my pocket knife in every pair of jeans regardless of the knife or the brand of jeans. By the time that happens, there are holes in the knees and seat as well. Maybe I just wait too long to replace my trousers.

Thats funny too, I never could get anything that was always in the same place to wear a "skoal ring" mark into a pair of pants... stuff in my pockets moves around too much I guess, wears all of it the same speed? Dunno.
