Pocket Knife for me

Take a look at the Kershaw Double Duty. It's a a good blend of traditional and tactical options for a folder.

Also check out the Spyderco Calypso Jr. and the new line of Byrd knives from Spyderco look really cool and under 30 bucks, you could buy a big one and a small one and still have 20 dollars left :)

ill add my endorsement of the spyderco Calypso Jr. I just got one, so have not had time to really give it EDC experience, but it ate cardboard like butter (putting my leek to shame). It functions well. While at first seeming too bulky and cheep (read light weight) compaired to my leek, after a day of carry, I appreciated the increased grip on the FRN and weight reduction. The knife has great ergos and a highly functional choil for detail work (though slipping forward wouldnt be to hard so dont go stabbing things with the index on the choil). I have not really tested edge retention signifigantly, due to time frame, but so far, so good, it was able to cut copper wire with out a huge degredation to the edge.

All around, i really like it.

Other good options would the the Case easy to open/close zytel lightweight, also no one has mentiond the Camillus Sierras, excellent knives simliar in design to spyderco, but cheaper (can be found for $25 or less on-line) although not as good bladesteel 440A vs. VG-10, but for the money they would be hard to beat. Also the Heckler and Koch lockbacks made by Boker look very impressive, but more expensive.

For my money I'd stick with Spyderco, either a Calypso, Delica, or Native, or Vesuvius, could not go wrong with any one of them and the most expensive is almost 20 dollars under your price cap.

If I were to rule out Spyerders I'd get either a Benchmade Griptillian or a Boker, either a Walter Brend or HK P2000. All these are close to your price cap.

If I wanted most knives for the money but still wanted good stuff I'd get Byrds or Camillus Sierras, or an Oddessy by Buck.

Nothing personal but don't buy any Schrade "tactical" folder, and I personally DO NOT like Gerber knives (I know they're good quality but I don't like their designs) and in all honesty I would not buy a tac folder that wasn't a Spyderco, Benchmade, Boker, or Camillus, they make some AWESOME stuff, CUDA, but all of it is well above 80 dollars.

Let us know what you end up with :)

Stick with Spyderco, Camillus, Benchmade, Buck, or CRKT. If I were you, I would avoid Gerbers at any cost.

I'm glad someone besides me doesn't like Gerbers. Am I the only one that likes Boker tactical folders, only thing I have against them are Tip Down Carry. Also I prefer Holes or Ovals, but IMHO Boker makes the best thumbstuds of any production knife, i like the way that the are oversized and knurled on the sides ensuring a solid purchase with the thumb. I recently sliced by thumb pretty bad on a BM 710 bc the knife was getting a little stiff and I think BM thumbstuds are ridiculously small, my thumb slipped off the stud and onto the blade, freak accident I know and I still the BM are awesome I just think Boker has the best most usuable thumbstuds. I may take a hit for saying that but I like Bokers :) Bucks are great knives often overlooked by the Benchmade and Chris Reeve type elitest (no offense guys) I like their oddessy with oval holes on blade. BM 806 has oval holes, all spyders have holes, if i can't have holes I want a Boker, one exception to that rule STRIDERS and BUCK STRIDERS OF COURSE ;)

Ok, back to sqaure one. Read my 1st post about the 910, great knife if you like tantos. The Emerson CQC7 Tanto is chisel ground..flat on one and ground on the other. The problem is, it'll tend to veer off center when you cut something. Great for self defense though. What will you use it for? Tantos lack the belly that makes drop points and clips slice so well

910 is worthless for everyday tasks. you need something with belly. get a Spyderco Endura or a Benchmade Griptilian. give up on the tactical look if you want to perform general cutting. at that price point, you won't be getting what you want anyway.

for $100: you could cover both worlds: Spyderco stainless steel ATR. holy crap, that's a nice knife. Spyderco Military. again, this is a knife other knives wish they could make out with.

Benchmade: AFCK off Ebay might be done for $100. great for everyday utility, but you could get yourself in trouble with it too, if ya like. go nuts.

abe m.

Have you looked at the Spyderco Native? It avoids the hump-backed look of many other Spyderco models.

I like the Benchmade McHenry & Williams, and the Griptilian. Both have useful profiles. The axis lock is excellent.

Plan to keep your own edges sharp (eventually) and do yourself a favor and avoid serrations.

If you need an excuse to buy more, buy an expensive knife for yourself and a less expensive one to lend to other people. Eventually, they'll know you carry a knife, and ask to borrow it, so you can keep the nice one nice and loan out the less expensive one.

If things work right, after awhile you won't need excuses of any kind to buy more.

My pick. I absolutely love mine.

D2 Grip, best damn steel (I like proven tool steels) in a compact and inexpensive package. The tanto isn't TOTALLY limited..though you'd want more belly for slicing stuff.
