Pocket Knife Handle

I like tinkering with things, and I recently dismantled a pocket knife. It was an old loose knife with a broken handle. I have cleaned up the blade, and re-assembled the knife. However, the handle was beyond repair. I would now like to make a nice wood handle and attach it to the sheath / case.

I'm sure I will need to provide more information, but are there any resources on the web that I could use for reference.

Thanks in advance

Wood. I have a nice piece of mesquite that I intend to shape into a handle. The knots look really nice. My first concern (and I'm probably worrying about the wrong things first) is how do you attach the handle to the metal case. I put rivits through the metal handle (to hold it together after I re-assembled it). I could cut those out, drill the handle and rivit through both the wood handle and the metal case; however, I'm worried the wood will split and/or not be strong enough to hold the rivits long term.

The second concern is how do you attach the metal end caps (like on my case). I use my knives quite a bit, and occasionally they have been dropped. I don't want to destroy the handle; I thought metal end caps would protect the wood.

I will be taking pictures of the knife this weekend. I haven't fashioned the handle yet.

To attach the wood, it is good to use both epoxy and pins or rivets. The epoxy will seal the back of the wood and keep it from absorbing water from the inside out. Be sure and use some sandpapeer to rough up and clean the metal before you apply the epoxy, and don't sand the wood to smooth, just make sure its flat and fits up nice. The rough surface makes it easier for the epoxy to adhere. You need to put some type of finish on the face side of the handles too. Epoxy will work, or you can try some type of eurethane finish. Make sure its something that will penetrate and seal the wood, and make for a very hard finish that won't rub off in the sheath or in your pocket.
When you say endcaps are you talking about the boltsers? If so do you have them to put on? or do you need to make them? If you have them, its pretty simple. I would try using JB weld and just gluing them right back where they go. You can also pin them on. Hope this helps. Let us know if you need somehithing explained more or I told you how to do someithing you weren't asking about and didn't answer what you wanted to know
