Pocket knife, how it carries in your pocket vs. how it feels during use.

carrying a pocket knife for non-work purposes where I live is felony that will result in an immediate, non-bailable arrest if searched, so how it feels in my pocket has no bearing on my purchase consideration since it stays in my toolbag at all times.

Also don't care much for how it feels during use, since the amount of time the knife spends in my hands when used usually does not exceed 20 minutes.

I know a 4 layer SAK carries well in jeans, but once was wearing sweat pants and it just weighed them down, kept having to pull up the pants. Basically any folder with a 3 inch or less blade and 4 layers or less should work. If you don't mind knives clipped to your pocket that would make larger blades more viable, though it makes reaching into that pocket kind of a pain.

Where are you from? I've heard of some nations being strict but small knives or even SAK's are given a pass in a lot of those.

Was not expecting a vote for neither

I like SAK's, they're useful but don't feel that great in hand.

Our LEOs do look the other way where SAKs are concerned. We have got people being arrested for carrying a pocket knife, but no one has ever gotten arrested for carrying a SAK unless that person was trying to be a dumbass by brandishing it in public.

Only problem is that I dislike the design of SAKs and traditionals. So I got a huge collection of sub-3" modern folders that are forever stuck in my drawers or toolbag.

In hand/functionality is the critical issue for me. I generally wear jeans, work pants or heavier khakis so the pockets are fairly similar and accommodate most folders.

I like bigger folders and don't mind that they generally mean nothing else goes in that pocket. If I'm carrying in a dressier outfit where I'm wearing dress pants, I typically have a jacket/blazer on so that is where I carry my knife.

That said I've been enjoying the 940-1 as it is light and small enough to carry in my shirt pocket with my fountain pen. :D

I generally wont carry a knife with bad hand-ergonomics, so that just leaves the pocket to consider. I like a slim blade over a chunky one. Height, like a Spyderco, doesn't bother me since a knife is all I keep in that pocket. Mostly I want it to be discreet and not tear up my pants with a rough clip surface.

I like the BM Bone Collector handle the best of all my folders. A little wide but worth it when it comes time to really use it.

I don't mind a wide knife in the pocket as long as its edges are smooth — i.e., no jimping ripping at my hand when I'm retrieving my keys.

In-hand ergos are really important to me, though. Hot spots are no-go.

That sounds like a penal colony

That seems like a pretty good idea. Thanks for the tip.

That's a good idea!

It makes life much easier. :)
I started doing it after having gotten a couple pairs of pants that just didn't fit what I wanted pocket-wise.
Some of them would carry a few of the knives comfortably, but others would be really annoying in carry.
Other times, I found pants that sucked for carrying a wallet.

Just a good idea to bring the things you'll normally carry to see how it works out. Phones, knives, wallets, they all has to fit in there in such a way that comfort and mobility isn't impaired.

because the knife is going to be in my pocket most of the time! i have to be able to slide it in/out easy, also i'm really liking the deep carry clips more now these days.

Handle ergonomics always takes priority over pocket carry!
However, depending on season and clothes I'm wearing I compromise.
Summer light clothes with less pockets, slim and light like BM710 or BM Stryker.
Winter heavy clothes with more deep big pockets, ZT0200 better handle ergo especially when wearing gloves.

3.25 to 3.5 inches when closed. No clip. 2 ounces or less. Works great in the hand and the pocket.

This one is great in the pocket and hand. Love the narrow bottom, which allows easy pocket entrance for my hand, but the way the grip has curves and swells in all the right places - this knife is just sick.

Personally I have moved to get away from bad gun & knife Laws (NY & NJ) to states that allow you to exercise your rights! Why won't people tell you where they live? Hard to understand, he may be from NJ or some communist country.

Ergos for me since it has to feel comfy in hand, most of my knives are in the small EDC category so the majority are decently sized to fit pretty much anything I would be wearing from jeans, khakis, slacks, to gym shorts. Other than that weight would be my next concern, some where in the 3.5 oz or less range.

How is this as an edc? I am pondering this or the 3" kou as a more pocket friendly edc.

I bring a few knives when shopping for pants to make sure the pockets are correct; proper pockets make carrying a wide range of knives comfortable. :)

Good lord staby, you really take this thing to the next level. ;) I wear Dickies carpenter pants for my outdoor romps, and the pockets could pack a suitcase. So I guess that this hasn't been a concern for me.
