Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding slipjoint poket knife making.

1. If I use a brass or bronze bush around the pivit pin does the blade pivit on the bush or does the bush pivit on the pin?
2. What is better for the bush, Bronze or brass?
3. What is the purpurse of having a half stop for the blade.

I'm going to have a crack at a slippy and see how it turns out.

Thanks Jamie.

I'm not a master of slipjoints, but I'll throw in my $.02 . I'm sure someone with more slippie experience will chime in here also before long.

1: I would think both would be accurate, from the slight wear pattern I see inside my older linerlock folders on both the blade and liner surface.

2: I use phosphorous bronze washers, but in fairness I haven't tried brass. PB bushings seem to be slick enough without adding blade play.

3: A half stop does just that- it stops the blade about halfway through closing so you can make sure your fingers are out of the way.

Hi Jamie, :)

1. If I use a brass or bronze bush around the pivit pin does the blade pivit on the bush or does the bush pivit on the pin?

In all cases, for every folding knife, ideally, the pivot pin and/or bushing should always be stationary....... as in imobile.
The only thing that should ever pivot or move, is the blade around said pivot pin or bushing.

2. What is better for the bush, Bronze or brass?

Bronze most definitely has better wear resistance than brass.

3. What is the purpurse of having a half stop for the blade.

I'm not so sure about the answer to this one buddy :o

I think it's pure unadulterated "cool factor" ............ the "walk" of the "walk & talk" ???

Thanks for the replys JB and David.

You both confirmed my thinking on bronze for bushes.

OK so if the blade pivits on the bush it has a greater contact area and there for should have less side to side movment.

I can now appreciate the concept of a half stop so he blade does not snap shut on your fingers, and of course there is the "cool factor" as well.

Jamie.
