Pocket knife screw tightening/marring OCD

Spyderco home forum there are frequent complaints about soft screws.

Some of their screws are hideously deformed. One needn't look any further than the clip screws on the Dragonfly. Some are ok, but most are shameful. It's been this way for years. A deformed screw will wreck your tools. Should you use your expensive Wiha driver on a deformed screw and risk ruining it, or should you have a set of Harbor Freight torx drivers for working on junky fasteners?

I think most fasterners are soft as I expect they come from China. CRK makes their own now and they can control the quality (i.e. hardness). If you are constantly removing fasteners you are running the risk of stripping the heads. I personally would avoid what you are doing unless the knife really needed it.

I have noticed some allen and torx bits have rounded tips. They need to be dressed so the bit sits all the way down. Hollow ground screw drivers are a necessity.

I'll say it again- the reason modern folders have screws is for assembly.
No maker really wants you to take their knives apart.
