Pocket knife used as a razor?

For some reason that I didn't find yet I can't get the razors enherited from my grandfather very sharp . I can get my knives shaving sharp but not the razors . Because of this I had to use sometimes my poket knives to shave ,my razor coudn't do the job . I have used even a cheep 440c steel Maserin knife to shave .
 
Shaved off a full goatee using my Cold Steel Recon 1 in AUS8, sharpened on the paper wheels and stropped on linen, then leather. Did the same thing with a my BM 580 in 154CM, same sharpening procedure. Tried it again later in the week, quite comfortably.... not an equal match for my straight razor, but each is designed for a different task. I don't have to shave but three times a week anyway.
 
Used one of my Military's to shave once last week when my battery died on my razor.

Not exactly the ideal angle and thinness for shaving, but it worked.
 
I've shaved with pocket knives just for kicks, but it's not practical enough for me to do it regularly. I've shaved a couple of times with my Kershaw Cyclone and once with my Opinel no. 8 carbon.
