What are the uses of a pocket knife?
Let's try to make a list so that when someone bugs us about it, we have ton of smart answers to shut them up.

It would be great if we could have a list that we just keep adding to without any repetition (which is probably quite difficult). Maybe we could get 50 uses, or a 100...

At the end of certain time periods(once a day if this thread stays afloat), I will TRY to compile them to a numbered list for easy viewing.

Just in the past few days I've opened a UPS box, my mail, cut some twine on a house project, opened one of those dammed plastic blister packages, and broke down some cardboard boxes after a shopping trip to Sam's Club.

Sort of a silly thread....but
We could organize by things like
Opening bags of (fill in the blank)
Opening boxes of....
Trimmin...
Cutting....

I think the OP should organize the comprehensive list!! :D

I use my pocket knife for almost any cutting task that appears in my daily life, from opening packages and envelopes to cutting fruit and dried meat.

I believe it was on the Leatherman site where I read that someone rescued people at a car accident by cutting the seat belts with his knife. It seems to me that using a knife for such emergency situations would be a great answer too if someone asks why you carry a knife.

99% of the time I'm using my pocket knife, it's for cutting open some kind of package. Those plastic blister packs in particular need a good knife, but even something like a bag of chips is much neater and easier to open with a knife.
