Pocket knife weight (and size)

I prefer a 4" folder for my daily cutting tasks, and as I am daily in scrubs it means the knife has to be thinner. Scrubs have actually gotten me to carry single bladed slipjoints, which is odd for me until I realized I classify slipjoints in two categories: primary blade and backup. Anything less than around 3.5" seems more as a backup to a primary blade (usually a pocket clipped folder or mid sized fixed blade; where anything over around 3.5" is big enough for a primary blade. I do a fair amount of food prep with my knives, so thin blade and light profile tend to go well with a long knife.

Do you have any experience of/with a Mini Copperlock (3.5") or Copperlock (... bigger than 3.5 ;-)? I have a Mini. I really like its slim profile, and to me its locking feature helps its fine blade feel even bigger in use than it might otherwise. The latter is probably entirely psychological-- blade size is blade size-- but I appreciate its form factor very much.

Thickness is the most important issue for me. My Buck 500 is nearly 4" long and is quite heavy, but it is also thin and flat. The worst pants I wear for knife carry are Dickies style chinos and would much rather carry the 500 than any slip joint that I own, including a tiny peanut style jack. The flat shape combined with the rounded bolsters make it ride easy, while I still notice the slippie.

With baggier pants, I can carry a buck 110 in my RFP. But I do prefer a lighter knife, even if it is just as long. My slimmed down Opinel 9 is an easier carry than the 110.

On the top end, I can carry my large, locking Victorinox Adventurer ...

... in pocket when I'm wearing jeans. But my preferred max size is just over 3.5 inches. And 9.9 days out of 10, I'll have a Case peanut in my pocket and a Victorinox Rambler on my keys.

Years back, I would carry a Buck 110 or Schrade LB7 in my back pocket. But these days, in pocket or on a belt sheath, that's just too much knife for me. In fact, I'm about to mail the LB7 to my nephew since he just made Eagle Scout.

That looks like one well loved SAK. I love it

I have both a Vallotten and an Adamas.

The latter carries much better than the former altho it weighs an ounce more.

YMMV

I like three inches overall or under for front/watch pocket carry because otherwise it feels like that horizontal rebar that other feller was talkin about. If it's bigger than that, then I clip it on my front pocket or slide it next to my wallet in my back pocket. Weight isn't an issue for me with sub-3" knives. I can handle them lil peanuts day in and day out!
