Pocket knife with saw?

I do like to carry a saw when I'm in the woods, in case I see the makings of a hiking staff or a catapult. The ones I have are by Bahco and Opinel, but I have been well-served by the saws on my Victorinox Mauser and Farmer.

Here's an old Victoria Bauernmesser with a saw

Are there any pocket knives with saw blades other than the Victorinox Farmer? I have seen something schrade/old timer, but not sure about the quality of those. Looking for something to chop up sticks for whittling in the field without having to deal with an actual saw.

I have a Mikov “Fixir” knife with a saw. The saw is about the same size and quality as the one on my Victorinox Fieldmaster. I like to cut walking sticks from downed limbs, and neither is really up to the task.

I found a lightweight Japanese folding pruning saw, and it works MUCH better. Cutting a 1-3/4” branch this morning was a matter of a few seconds - would have been a real struggle with the SAK saw. The thing is so light, it isn’t a burden at all to carry it along with your pocket knife. There is room to carve the handle down considerably as well, if the size is a problem.

The only problem is that the blade is extremely thin. I already broke one, and snapped the tip off my current one. User error, though, really - I should slow down and be more careful and not force it on the push.

If you have patience and money, you could land one of these bizarre monsters :D
That was a pretty good concept, well made with decent materials. However, the saw failed terribly....The teeth were just notches cut in the blade, not sharp at all...

Very true and I heard of disappointment at the time. As I said, bizarre monster ;) But the OP asked for pocket-knives with saws, so to paraphrase Dirty Harry, "I gave them one" I think this knife is strictly one for the collectors yes, but it marks GEC's occasional voyage into whimsy perhaps..... Putting odd things on patterns like Combs, Forks, Saws that don't really work (aesthetically or functionally 🤣)

There are saws on older German pocket- knives acting as hunting tools, probably pretty good but I just can't help feeling that saws on relatively small knives are not really serious, just a standby/emergency item . I've used the saw on a SAK Farmer for small indoors tasks and it's up to it. When I'm out in the forest and I see something I want to make fire sticks or other things out of, I don't even bother with a folding saw but a small compact hatchet does the job quicker and with less effort, belt sized ones exist and do a nice job.

My wife was attending an out of town weaving class. We found out on arrival that she needed several 1X6" pieces of dowel. We went into a strange to us town and she bought a couple of 3' pieces of dowel. Turned out to be oak. The saw in the Wenger Swiss Army referenced cut through the oak in just a few minutes and produced what she needed. No harm to the saw or my hands, and it is still just as sharp as it was to start. Small but formidable. Everything on that particular knife is of the highest quality and capability.

In 1980 we were on an Exercise (Flintlock) in the Black Forest with 22 USAF Security Policemen as our "Guerrillas", and our 10 men. We found a small 20 meter by about 20 meter part of the forest where it had not yet been trimmed out, branches all the way to the ground. First time on a German map that something was not on the map. With a bunch of SAK's with saws and a few Secateurs (English for Garden Shears, read about the SAS using them and could not figure out what a Secateur was for a while?). We cut paths to all 4 sides of that little forested area for sentries to move day or night, sleeping areas, area to run classes in all very quickly and quietly as saws do not make much noise. Later a Major was sent out to check on us and could not believe 32 men were hiding in this little forest area and he had not heard or seen anything to give away our presence. If I have a SAK it must have a saw. John

Otherwise if you want a performing saw. Bigger is better.

Swiss army/Wenger? Do oversized knives. So the saw is better. But of course the knife is bigger.

Which is kind of the victorinox soldier. But just bigger.

The soldier being the easiest to remember for me.

And then I realised you mentioned the farmer.

So there are a bunch of SAK knives with saws that are a size up.

I reviewed a Victorinox Hunter in 1992, found the long saw-blade even better than the one on my Mauser, and carried it frequently for many years. Unfortunately, while travelling, some cops reckoned they had mistaken it for an automatic, because the lock was on the side at the time, impounded it, and then it went missing from the evidence room, so I never got it back 😖

Just re-reading my article from 1992. I knew that Victorinox had taken my idea for a rescue knife (developed in a further separate article), but I'd forgotten about my suggestion for the 'inset panels' in the handle scales! :D

The saw blade on Victorinox models is a very good one. May I ask, do you dislike the Victorinox saw or maybe looking for a knife with a little more character?
I don't dislike the Victorinox at all, I was just curious what other options were out there. I like to consider what's available before pulling the trigger on something.

Looks like there are several interesting options I was not aware of. 🤔
