Pocket knives that lock closed as well as open

Yeah, SOG Tridents, Flashes, and Aegises all have a lock bar to lock it closed. Kinda annoying when you accidentally turn the lock on when it's in your pocket and then can't open it next time you pull it out to use it. :p

Yup, most of the SOG assisted folders will lock closed. I have a mini and full sized Aegis I use in certain situations when I need a folder that will lock closed.

There was a thread a month or so that basically asked the samething because the member here had a child around 4 y.o.

I have a pair of almost 2 y.o., It was an attempt to open a new box (not a package, but a taped shut box) of wipes with one hand while desperately keeping the kid from waving his loaded diaper like a flag with the other that made me realize I need a knife that can be opened and closed one handed.

One option is carrying a small folder in a leather/stingray carrying pouch. William Henry makes modern folders and pocket pouches that fit all of their knives. I'm sure you could buy a pouch for a non William Henry knife too.

Huh, hadn't considered that. A keychain or belt pouch, or Skinth P3 style pocket sheath would solve things nicely.

I have a Benchmade Benchmite. Small knife, locks open and closed. Unfortunately, as I understand it, they have been discontinued.

Kershaw of series has a can flipper that needs to be engaged. Why not just tip up carry and place the blade against your picket so it cant deploy, problem solved!

If you're that worried about it opening in your pocket, then wear a belt sheath or use a pocket slip. What I do is sew a stitch in my pocket to create a pocket within the pocket, specifically for my knife, which holds it in the same position as the clip and there is absolutely no way it can open.... surrounded by stitches on both sides. Or, you could always switch to a knife that definitely will not open unless you want it to..... a traditional folder or a Buck 110.

Any Kershaw speed-safe mechanism that has a lock on it. Not all of them do. The Spec Bump is a stud lock with a separate blade lock. The Boa and Cyclone (discontinued) also have locks. I'm sure there are more in the Kershaw line.

I came across a really neat Sanrenmu pocket knife which surprised me with its lock-on-closed position feature. It's Sanrenmu model 6027LUI-LI, which uses a plunger style thumb stud. On closing, the blade detente actually locks the blade in closed position, as it's not rounded like a typical ball bearing type detente. To open, you have to push the plunger thumbstud into the blade so as to push the frame lock away from the blade, disengaging the detnte.

I found that the Milwaukee Fastback knives have a similar mechanism to lock the blade closed, and they're available locally. They have a hybrid plunge/liner lock with the plunger holding the blade closed and the liner holding the blade open. The factory edge was mediocre, but did the job. I was able to get to to shaving sharp, but it took a little doing as the metal raises a burr easily, but it doesn't polish off easily. I have no idea what the steel is, but I'm guessing it's a soft tempered, fine grained, and high carbon stainless.

The Mini-Barrage AO is fairly trivial to remove (disassemble, remove spring, reassemble) and doing so leaves you with an AXIS folder that can be locked closed, or even double-locked open.

You can make it any style you like at the Benchmade Builder.

The Buck Paradigm Pro bolster locks the knife open and closed...and the auto assist would come in handy when you're in a hurry to boot. Of all of the emergency tasks I've heard of on this forum, a loaded diaper would definitely be at the top of my list as well:eek::D
