Merry Christmas All!!

What you have when you need it, is all you will have at the time :)...;)

Through the years I've pretty much narrowed it down to the stuff below that I do my best to always have in my pockets when I head out the door to work, to the woods...everywhere, and am curious what you carry consistently on your person in the event you encounter a potential survival situation.

My pockets:

Esee Izula 2: compact, fixed blade that's more comfortable for pocket carry than any clip folder I've had...carries so well you can forget about it, can use as a necker, and have the versatility of a fixed blade in good steel that can be abused if needed.
K&M matchcase w/ compass: typical survival stuff/meds in side, wrapped in a couple of different types of duct tape and a few feet of snare wire.
Firecracker LED: love it
If anything does get left behind, it's the Paracord, and of course the Carmex as is seasonal :).

My setup is a lot similar to yours.

Left pocket:
Nanostriker
firestraw(in wallet)
bandaids(in wallet)
fox 40 whistle
Sunwayman AA light
lip balm(seasonal)

Right pocket:
SAK Electrician
Spyderco Military

Cargo pocket:
bandana
enough paracord to use as a sling for a jacket, water bottle etc.

Sometimes I'll carry my izzy 2 instead of the military. I need to get some more duct tape in my wallet. I haven't replenished it since I used it last.

I don't like to carry a lot of survival gear on my person and it really is not necessary in town either. I am always within walking distance of one of the kits. I have the car kit to get me from point to point and when I am in the woods I have a bag of goodies. Home is well stocked. Anyway here is my urban survival pocket gear.

3 in 1 primaloft /goretex jacket (keeps the rain and cold off so it's very much a survival item)
Left pocket: wool watchcap
Right pocket: folding knife or gloves, if gloves the knife goes in the right pants pocket with the keys.
Breast pockets: cash + pen

Pants:
Left pocket: Samsung galaxy note, wallet with cards
Right pocket: keys

Comfortable shoes

I too carry a K&M matchsafe everyday and for the second time in less than a year the compass now thinks south is north. Do you have any problems with this? I think it might be me, I used to have problems with digital watches going haywire after a couple months on my wrist. then as an older adult I started wearing analog watches with no problems, so I thought nothing of throwing the compassed matchsafe in my pocket. Now I've never edc'd a compass before so I dont know if its is a QC issue with the compass or if I'm one of those EM-cursed individuals.

Only a bandana in my pocket
And a slipjoint in a belt pouch

The rest goes in a side pouch

Should your compass not functioning, you ought to learn bout using an analog to tell North and South.

That was very informative, thank you. I WILL be using that little trick. I'm still nonplussed about the useless compass though..... it doesnt even point south reliably! I'll just call them again, K&M couldnt have been nicer the half dozen times I've had to call them and I'm sure they will help me out.

Fenix flashlight, Space pen, Vic Ranger SAK, turbo lighter, wallet, Svord Peasant, cell phone.

as of right now i have a bic lighter, parachute cord, a small flash light, some change a spyderco delica 4 and a 3 3/4 inch fixed blade in O1.

Don't know what's in my pockets right now. they are in the other room draped over a chair.

My "Urban Ready Keychain". Constantly been with me for many years.

It has my version of the 5 C's of Personal Readiness.

EDC.jpg

1. Cut - A SAK Explorer. Good selection of tools at the just the right size and can be carried almost anywhere.

2. Combustion - a Bic lighter (in sheath)

3. Cord - 10" long paracord. The "chain" should be knotted for quick deployment if needed.

4. Call Attention - For signalling, a metal whistle and small coin-battery flashlight near carabiner attachment.

5. Convenient Carry - All packaged small and compact enough to be brought along always, attached to your pants or inside your EDC bag.

This is rounded out by my EDC rotation (Spydie Endura/Swick/Boker Plus M-Type/LM Charge) and bandanna also always with me.

(LM Charge is in my shoulder bag along with folded work gloves and face mask and 2XAA flashlight.)

Here in PA, it's a large orange contractor bag as emergency shelter, Mylar space blanket, first aid kit, spare boot laces, fleece watch cap, headlamp and whatever knife I have on me.

Sorry, but no pictures... I wear comfortable exercise pants all the time, and these have only front pockets. Here's what's in them most days.

Left
- 10 foot hank of paracord, preknotted to serve as a dog leash when I forget to bring the leashes to the park (caribiners in RH pocket)
- "Flavor of the day" folder. Today it's a GEC Titioute #68 White Owl with bocote covers (it's 1095 steel, so could spark on flint)
- ZipLoc pint freezer bag with:
-- CPR instruction foldouts, one for adults, one for child and infant
-- Paper hand towel (plush kind) to give away rather than losing hankies all the time
-- Smaller plastic bag with assorted bandaids and two 3 x 4 inch gauze sponges
-- 2 packets of Hexistat germicidal wipes (less ouchy than alcohol wipes)
-- 1 packet Ben's insect repellent wipe
-- Fisher Stowaway ballpoint pen
-- 4 index cards for notes
-- 12 feet of orange gaffer's tape on a fake credit card
-- MiniBic lighter, orange
-- Fiskars folding scissors with blunt ends
-- protective plastic sheet (cut down from a thin cutting board sheet -- protects the contents on the side facing out)
- Leatherman SideClip (actually on the LH waistband, not the pocket)

Right
- Survival key chain - items attached to a miniature orange caribiner with 5/8 in. split rings:
-- 15 in. length of jute twine (tied like a fob) for tinder
-- 2 small NiteIze S-Biners to convert the paracord into dog leashes
-- spare house key
-- BSA Hot Spark
-- Striker
-- Sliver-gripper tweezers
-- ACME rescue whistle, orange
-- Photon Freedom LED with red body
- Wallet with credit and ID cards, clear waterproof style
- 24 x 24 in. bandanna
- Benchmade Griptilian, orange scales, 154CM with thumb hole

I carry multiple kits with increasing levels of "coverage." I used to rely on the items in my man purse, leaving my pockets empty, but in a true emergency, I may not have it or have access to it. Now I feel comfortable going out of the house with just my EDC pocket load. In fact, I feel comfy taking the same contents on multiple-day backpacking trips (along with my backpack stuff, I mean.)

Bear

-whatever main blade I'm carrying (today it's a Pacific Salt)
-SAK
-fenix E01 light/keys
-chap stick
-cell phone
-wallet
-watch
-paracord bracelet w/ whistle (usually)
-lighter

Not a whole heck of a lot. Wallet, I guess those cards and papers and cash could be tinder. GEC 15 barehead jack, an el cheapo Field and Stream no name brand 100 lumen EDC size light, with a fresh AA battery. Keys with some cord on the ring, on a carabiner (not for climbing ;). Some coins, my money clip with some more tinder/cash. My medicine pouch my father made for me, that is for spiritual survival. Some pocket lint.
