I stumbled across this thing on the Garrett Wade website. Its basically a carbide cutter which I gather is used like one might use a file to make a draw cut. Has anyone used one? Looks like it would provide more control than the V-notch carbide sharpeners

That looks pretty neat for a pocket sharpener. Do you know if the actual carbide rod extends any more, or if that is it? Seems like I'd want more surface area for sharpening anything other than the very smallest of blades.

I've been looking at getting one of the keychain sharpening rods, the triangular ones by Gatco.
