Pocket slip question

For those of you who use a pocket slip with their traditional, do you carry the knife in the slip in the pocket with other things (e.g. keys, change, etc.), or do you still dedicate a pocket to just your knife and slip? I haven’t used a slip before, but thinking about trying one. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You can always get a slip with a clip. I am in scrubs m-f so if i am carrying my knife, i wont feel the extra bulk since its clipped to the scrubs pants.

I carry a handkerchief and a knife in a leather slip in my right front pocket along with my keys, another knife, and a tiny adjustable wrench hanging from a keyring. (There's usually a peanut-sized knife in the watch pocket, too.)

What ever suits you, and can depend on what ever pants you are wearing. If i can give you some advise though, when you purchase one, run your finger along the inside across the press stud if the slip you're looking at has one. The reason for this is, good ones will have a cover, normally pig skin over the stud clip on the inside, other wise the stud will scratch up your knife.

You'll probably get a different answer from each one. Most of the time I carry a knife and only a knife, with or without slip, in my left front pocket. If I am wearing a shirt without a pocket (such as a t-shirt), I will also drop a comb and a bullet pen in my pocket too. And lately, a mask, because most businesses at the moment won't let me in without it.

Sometimes it is just the knife in the slip in the pocket, but more often that knife in the slip is sharing space with other things.

I use the smaller slip from GEC in same pocket as my keys.
The larger slip from Knives Ship Free I use in my pajama pocket with nothing else. You may laugh, but it keeps me from digging my knife out of the couch, especially on Christmas morning.

I actually carry mine in a pocket organizer, but If I was using just a slip though I wouldn't have other things in that pocket because I have done it before and having multiple sizable objects riding loose just doesn't work for me.

One thing that's very important to me is the ability for my knife to go in and out without removing the organizer or slip it's riding in, having the slip or organizer to put away then take out again to put my knife back away is a no go for me.

I carry the knife in a slip in my left front pocket along with loose change and other small items. Keys go in the right front pocket.

Of course, the OP's question assumes we only carry a knife when wearing pants. However, when I do wear pants, I don't usually carry a knife in a slip but when I do carry a knife in a slip while wearing pants, I carry it in my right front pocket.

I am not responsible for my above answer as I just took my nighty - night time meds.

I don't generally use a slip for my knife.
My knife rides in my left front pocket with office keys and pocket change.
Same, but right front.
All of my bolsters are scratched. I carry a new knife as soon as I get it that way it gets a little scuffed and I dont have to worry about it getting scuffed ( because that happens first day)

I always carry my traditionals in a pocket slip, but, I use a Buckaroo pocket slip. This type of pocket slip has a cord that attaches it to your belt so it dangles into your pocket. I am able to set it up to carry any knife regardless of how big right along the back seam of my left front pocket and then I can carry anything else that I need to in that pocket as well. It works with jeans, slack, and khakis and I never have to worry about an awkward poke when I sit down while carrying my 98 whittler.

Thanks for that, Ed. It isn't very often that I can laugh out loud 10 minutes after I crawl out of bed.

To each his own, but for me the whole point of having a pocket knife is to have it be handy when you need it. Since I am right handed, that means loose in the right front pocket with my keys and change. Having to fish it out of a slip or something just seems too complicated, especially if all I want to do is open a package or something.

I carry my pocket knife in my left front pocket because then it's in my left hand when I fish it out.
I will have to hold the knife in my left hand to open it anyways, so it saves me from having to switch hands.
It probably makes zero difference because I have to orient the knife with both hands anyway, but it makes sense in my head. o_O

I do not usually use a Slip UNLESS :
1. Carrying a knife with Brass Liners and or Pins and is White Bone or Stag because of Verdigris
2. Carrying knives that I do not want to get Scratched Up
They , for me , are just More Stuff In The Pocket .

All the slips I have I (attempted) to make myself, and I really only use a slip when wearing "meetin'" pants. It keeps the knife from sliding out, hitting the floor and startling the crap out of other "meetin'" goers.

I did, however, make a fairly useful organizer for my Recruit and an Olight flashlight. Kinda handy, if I say so myself.

I almost always use a slip because it is so easy for me to lose a knife if I don't.
